A patriotic pole vaulter stopped right before a qualifying jump in Rio to pay attention to his national anthem. US Army reservist Sam Kendricks, 23, from Mississippi, was running pole in hand when he heard the first notes of the Star-Spangled banner. The second lieutenant was set to perform one of his attempts to qualify that day - but instead stopped dead in his tracks and let go of his pole to respectfully stand still.

I’ve noticed the last 20 years (and it’s getting worse) that most news stories beg more questions than they answer. And usually some of those begged questions are key to understanding the story.
I don’t have a lot of respect for modern journalism.
I think her family influenced her over Black Lives Matter.

I think some people are not aware that, at the Olympics, there are people competing at the same time that there are medal ceremonies going on .... hence the anthem when he was competing.

If they stood respectfully at attention, cut them some slack. There are many like myself who were taught when we were young that you stood at attention with your arms at your sides to show respect. Today, I try to remember to place my hand over my heart, but trained reflex has me standing at attention most times.
Journalism school is where you go if the rigors of a teaching degree are too much for you.
I agree, journalism is in an awful state.
Far too many news articles fail to provide standard story-telling information framework detailing:
Who, what, when, where, why, and how.
We baby boomers learned that in our 3rd grade English class.

As a kid we put our hand over our heart for the pledge and stood at attention for the National Anthem.
No clue when this placing hand on heart thing started.
