Since you mentioned firearms, the suspense novel The Day of The Jackal had a bad guy pretending to be an wounded war veteran wearing a long greatcoat: he had one leg folded up behind him (like you do when stretching your quads) and walked on crutches. But his folded-up lower leg was hidden beneath his greatcoat, on which he proudly war his war medals.
