Yes, I've seen that legend, and read of EC's familiarity with it as well, thanks.

That being said, I'm doubtful that the heart-rending, soul-gripping guitar work on Layla was inspired by an old Persian myth.
But that's just me.

Regardless, it's my absolutely favorite blues/rock song of all time.
Have listened to it literally hundreds of times over the years and it's NEVER grown stale.

Of course Clapton was never the deity that some goofily claimed, but my God what an incredible talent !

The irony, of course, is that most of the soul-gripping guitar work on Clapton's most famous song is provided by none other than Duane Allman.
