Armed men have abducted at least 16 people from La Leche, an upmarket restaurant in a popular Mexican tourist destination. "I am in Puerto Vallarta heading the investigation into the kidnapping (that) occurred this morning," said Eduardo Almaguer, the state prosecutor on his Twitter account on Monday (15 August).
Initial reports, which have not been officially confirmed, stated that a group of armed men targeted around 20 people in La Leche restaurant and took some of them away in several vehicles.
Prosecutors in the western state of Jalisco said that two SUVs with several gunmen arrived at around 1am at the restaurant which is on the city's main boulevard, which runs through the hotel district.
Five vehicles were abandoned at La Leche and it is not yet known if they belonged to the victims or their abductors, according to an AP report.

I thought it was an ice cream flavor
Dr. Livingston, I presume? Surely you must be shopping in the Walmart near where I live. It does not feel like America anymore.
Some of that Mexican chili will do that to me too!
I get the trots by just seeing a map of Mexico in an atlas.
The pink stuff wouldn’t touch it. A lot if Imodium finally, but I almost had to go see a doctor.
I believe there may be Mexican germs that have their own germs.
It happened at 1am.
Whats a wall without turrets, eh?
Just read they were part of a rival drug gang not tourists.
Haven’t darkened the door at Wally World for probably three years at least. Just too scary - particularly in the evening.
Was going to Dollar Tree. Store was full when I was in there last and other than one clerk I was the only one who spoke English.
If you go to Mexico you are officially insane.
Back in the '80s we lived in CA. My liberal sister and her far-Left husband had enough of 'Frisco, came down to Oceanside (50 mi from Mexico) and tried marinating me with all their screwball views. They bought a place in San Felipe, Mexico and RAVED over the place and the "wonderful people" there. They wanted me to buy in. I said "no".
When our family went on vacation, we headed for Canada (1,400 miles) and spent weeks up there touring - never had a problem - and - the people were great, if not "wonderful".
My sister wondered why I'd drive "all that distance" when Mexico was so close. I told her I walked across the border in Tijuana once and it reminded me of 120th St in NYC where we grew up in the '50s. I did a 180 and never went back. She said "Oh, you Conservatives! as SO racist". Horror stories (mostly police graft) from people took their RVs down there said the Gringos had bullseyes on their backs, which only reinforced my "racism".
She gave me flak about that for another couple of years. Then, of a sudden, they sold the place. I asked them if they made a profit and they never said one way or the other and never spoke of the place again. I suspect they had a Reality Check of some kind as they almost got wall-eyed if you mentioned San Felipe. (I'd bring it up on every visit just for brotherly spite. :-) )
