A leftist art professor from the University of Florida has advised her students to avoid the phrase "melting pot," because that's racist.
If you're a student, and you happen to wind up in Professor Pamela Brekka’s class Art Appreciation: American Diversity and Global Arts, you might want to avoid uttering "melting pot" or she'll knock you down a few grades.
A portion of Brekka's online syllabus reads in all-caps:
"DO NOT EVER USE THE PHRASE ‘MELTING POT’ IN THIS CLASS. IN THIS CLASS WE CELEBRATE DIVERSITY, NOT SAMENESS."
In an interview with Campus Reform, Brekka stated she felt the term didn't accurately reflect diversity, saying the phrase "signals a Euro-White Colonial standard, point blank, period." Brekka rather prefers the other analogy of America as a salad bowl, where individual ingredients are mixed together but remain distinct.
As noted by the The Daily Caller, professor Brekka admitted to knocking students' grades for saying the phrase, though she denies using it as a "strict policy."
According to one of the professor's students, Brekka's leftist fanaticism goes into other areas as well, with one of her discussions focusing on whether or not "architectural design has been dominated by men in order to promote a social/political order dominated by men."
"It’s almost as if the questions, how they’re worded, you can only answer them this one certain left-wing way," the student told Campus Reform. "It was not a college level course … because we didn’t get a lot of the information."
It has been suggested that America has gone from “melting pot” (E Pluribus Unum) to “tossed salad” where each ingredient remains separate though together. Meh.
Anyway, this ditz airhead moonbat needs to spend a sabatical either in Iran or Pakistan. In a burka.
Brekka belongs in a burka, dirka dirka dirka.
I am so thankful I went to engineering school and did not have to suffer through many of these lefty professors. Engineering professors were sane and stuck to the subject matter. I never knew what political viewpoint they had.
Dinesh D’Souza explained this “American” phenomenon well in his excellent book “What’s So Great About America”.
As an American, black, white, brown, etc, you could never uproot your family and move to Japan and declare yourself “Japanese”. Or make Germany your home and tell everyone you are “German”. Or take up residence in India refer to yourself as “Indian”.
You could SAY it, but to Japanese, Germans, and Indians, it would make no sense to them. They would say “You live here and are a citizen, but...you aren’t, and can never be one of us.”
But anyone, ANYONE, can come to America, call themselves an American, and it is true, and everyone accepts it. It makes sense.
That is what makes (or used to make) America great, and why it is (or was) great to be an American.
People came here to be Americans and leave that other crap behind. Our country is full of stories of people who came from places like Italy or Germany, and once here, the parents forbade their children from speaking the native tongue in their new home. They might never learn English, but by God, their children were going to be full-fledged Americans!
They wouldn’t be Chinese-Americans, Japanese-Americans, Finnish-Americans, German-Americans, or African-Americans.
They would be Americans who were of some ancestry.
It is the cursed Left that has imbued this corrosive “separateness” and “diversity”. May they all rot in Hell.

An anonymous letter should criticize her from an unexpected direction: as “failing to understand socialism.”

This is the great thing of socialist dialectic. Since it is utter bullcrap, it can be twisted in any way you like. And socialists are both stupid creatures, and willing to turn on each other in a moment, like chickens that will attack and peck to death a chicken of their group who looks a little different.
If you think about it, the label: “professor” is racist!
Right, she/it should be called a professit.
The correct phrase is “mongrel pot”.
As a 34-year resident of Germany, where I work as a copy-editor for German, I can confirm this.
