Michael Phelps is the first at the age of 31 years and 4 months to win an individual gold in an olympic event. Not only did he win a gold at his age, he won it in the 200 meter butterfly. His starts and turns seemed a bit off, but his core strength was amazing.
The 200 butterfly has to be the most demanding of olympic events. I know. I competed in butterfly at the Pan Am games when I was 16. He earned his place in olympic history.

He earned his place in olympic history.
Greatest olympian ever.....What makes his feat even more amazing is the fact that for every medal event he's entered in, he had to also swim a prelim....So that's two races per event. And at that age you have to marvel at his ability to recover enough for the next event.
I saw him swim the final leg of the 4 x 200 and he could barely climb out of the pool.
