Will he be Hall of Fame worthy?

In his new role, Alex Rodriguez will be assigned to work with various players at all levels of the Yankees farm system, including many of the club’s top prospects. He will report directly to Hal Steinbrenner and offer instruction to players in conjunction with the Yankees Baseball Operations and Player Development Departments. As part of his wide-ranging duties, Rodriguez will provide the Yankees regular feedback and analysis regarding the club’s minor league system. Additionally, he will serve as a Guest Instructor during spring training in 2017.

What will he be instructing the young players?

Guess he knows he is unlikely to hit four more home runs the rest of the way.

The Yankees, who are pushing to playing younger players, are contractually obligated to pay Rodriguez the remainder of his $21 million salary for this season and the $21 million he is owed for 2017.

With 694 HR’s....he probably ought to get admission. But then how many were fake HRs via steroids? If you look at his build and weight....he’s the kind of guy who should have hit near 35 HR’s a year for his best decade, and maybe wound up with 450 total HR’s.

Off a listing of all-time Yankees....I wouldn’t put him in the top twenty...but it’s just me saying that. As long as they don’t get stupid and try to bring in as a manager one day....I don’t care.

Worthy? Maybe. But ‘roid users that are too well known as users aren’t going to get in the HOF for a LONG time, maybe not while they’re alive.

Likely they will buy out part or all of the final year of the contract. Good riddance.

Made up BS role. Excuse to keep paying him to get away from team.

The announcement probably comes along with a renegotiation of his contract. Maybe the Yankees halved his contract for next year. Savings = $10 million. Also, Alex will not get the $10 million bonus for hitting home run #700. Next bloated salary to address is CC Sabathia’s.

Yankees need to assemble and develop a younger version of the core 4. For all the multiple millions spent on A-Rod they got one WS win and a lot of headaches thrown in the mix.

He is Chipper Jones without the contract money owed.

Serve a useless role and make people feel good about him showing up.

EDIT: I should say A-ROD is being released on or around the 13th after playing his last game. This is why NYY is on the hook for the 21m$ in 2017. Not officially “retiring.”

No admission. It’s clear there is already a HoF ban on Roiders. Arod is an a-hole. If they break the ban, it ought to be for someone of better character.

I support starting a baseball Hall of Infamy. To qualify you have to have great lifetime stats, but have dishonored the game. Finally a place for players like shoeless Joe Jackson, Pete Rose, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Mark McGuire, etc. to get their due recognition.

MLB contracts are pretty ironclad when it comes to the money. A-Rod and some other big-time players have ‘personal services’ and ‘marketing’ contracts that I don’t think are allowed anymore. That would be a reason to keep him in the organization - to save the Yankees from various kinds of embarrassments.
