Dome light should not have downed the car.

Store may have had a payphone and she did not know it.

Battery may have been going bad, too. I’ve had batteries that would start the car if you didn’t have to crank more than 5 seconds. Forget it after that.

Story may or may not be true. Hard to believe that she was turned down by 20 people. Maybe in a sketchy city neighborhood where she's the wrong color.
Around here, in the country, guys would be fighting each other to help her.
Don't know if pay phones even still exist but I'm sure the store would have let her use the phone.
