Homeowners returned to a Sand Canyon neighborhood Monday night, days after the raging Sand Fire tore through the area.
For some like John Kim, returning to the area meant picking through the remains of his home.
Kims neighbor died in his car trying to outrun the flames. The victim was a man in his 60s.
He lived on the property with a woman, who was too distraught to speak. Their home also burned to the ground.
Kim says the man who died went back to rescue his dog.

I was wondering what happened to the dog. The story seems to have no news there, not even a statement that the dog’s fate is currently unknown.
RIP.
A dog is not worth a human life. While his heart may have been in the right place, his brain was out to lunch. If I embarrass you, grow a pair.
You don't just embarrass me, you embarrass this website.
You ain't been around here long enough bro to understand what this site is all about. Evidently you think it's simply a repository for ignorant comments.......
No one's death should be celebrated let along ridiculed............You don't belong here!
I would imagine that he thought about how he had failed his dog. I know that is where I would be.
I saw a hawk electrocute itself about 10 days ago, and still feel so bad about not having been able to stop it. How silly is that.
Some people have that brain/emotional wiring.
I saw video of his girlfriend with a Black Lab on a leash. If they only had one dog, it survived. If they had more than one dog, it was in the car with him, and very likely died there.
You have nailed it.
A point lost on the emos posting on this thread.
Then you need to seriously reassess your priorities.
Maybe you need to reassess your soul. We are not meant to be heartless towards any of God’s creation.
I think not. Willingness to commit suicide over an animal qualifies you as deep in the neurotic continuum. (if you would actually do it that is - I have my doubts that you're really that crazy)
Hmmm. Interesting definition of suicide. Confirms my impression of you.
