It’s who they are.
At the tender age of 7 months, Odin was forcefully shoving me out of the path of a weirdo in WV.
I was so focused on training him in a parking lot, while waiting for my Dr. appt, I did not notice an elderly man approaching.
I *thought* Odin was being sarcastic, as I was teaching him his “hip”/support maneuver when he started snow-plowing me back toward the doctor’s office.
[I hadn’t notice how far we’d strayed towards the abandoned warehouses]
I started to apologize for Odin’s seemingly rude, inexplicable behavior and the old dude ignored Odin’s warning growls and marched right up to just a yard from us, offering me a creepy, disturbing smirk and said “Don’t like me much, does he?”
At that point Odin rammed me sideways and lunged at him.
The dog is not a loose cannon and generally likes people.
Had to be something *very* wrong about that guy.
I thank the dog that my body was not found in one of the old warehouses, or worse, lost forever in the thousands of square acres of mountain, nearby.
FWIW, he’s *never* broke that bad for anyone else he’s ever met.
Scary stuff.
He was likely thinking “Lord, I gave Boss Lady all the signals. Why oh why didn’t she get it?”
Dobes are amazing dogs. I have a dobe rott mix — smartest dog I’ve ever owned.
Love your story about Odin.
Also, big Cooper fan right here! ;-)
