The parents of the Nebraska boy who was killed by an alligator at Walt Disney World will not sue the company for his death, they announced Wednesday.
Matt and Melissa Graves, whose 2-year-old Lane was dragged to his death at the Orlando resort, said they will solely be focused on the future health of our family and will not be pursuing a lawsuit against Disney.

Settlement and NDA
As they shouldn’t, since they share the blame.
Sue the gator.
No need, they probably got a massive payoff.
They are more forgiving than I would be, especially after learning that Disney employees have been feeding those gators!
Despite their own culpability, they would have won. I’m guessing Disney quietly offered a generous settlement.
While I would like to believe that they are more forgiving, my skeptical side thinks maybe they got an offer of a large amount of money, and part of the deal was that they were to say they did would not be suing Disney. Just a gut feeling on my part.
There was no way Disney wanted this in front of a jury.
If Disney settled without the family having an attorney and assuming Disney actually paid a fair settlement, some ambulance lawyer (especially those on TV who were clueless about wild animals and law) are crying in their booze.
“As they shouldnt, since they share the blame.”

Who lets their 2 year old child play in a waterfront, gators or not, anyway?
Not surprised. They called for a priest when the accident occurred. May the child rest in peace and his family be consoled by the prayers of his Catholic family.
Catholic ping!
This was not a domestic animal, there are different rules regarding wild animals with regards to civil actions.
We should be grateful this family’s tragedy is out of the hands of the endless courts and is moving on. Other companies or families would have dragged this on and it would be a living never ending nightmare over and over.
Yup.
Have to disagree with you on them sharing the blame. I have been at that very spot on evening strolls with my family. It was designed by Disney to resemble a shoreline. Night time outdoor family movies are shown just yards away. It is a miracle that this didn’t happen before now. It could have easily been one of my own grandchildren. We are all Floridians and know about alligators, so don’t go there if you are thinking of using the “stupidity” response that so many other posters have in these discussions.
This has been discussed before. A “no swimming” sign does not warn of alligators. The child was not swimming, but was walking at the edge of the water, and the father was just feet away. I would say that this is why Disney has now built a barrier and accurate warning signs about alligators at that area. Don’t you agree?
Thank you for your post. I agree with you. I do not believe there were appropriate warnings.
I am almost always disgusted when a parent’s reaction to losing a child is, “let’s see if I at least won the lottery,” so I’m glad the parents didn’t follow that path. Even with a (hypothetical but likely) settlement from Disney, I strongly approve of this decision. Whether or not Disney contributed to the accident, the parents were physically present and made very serious errors.
I completely agree with your post. Here is a family from Nebraska who probably had no clue that alligators reside in the waterway. No signage of any sort from Disney warning of alligators...and people want to put the blame on the family???? Seriously?
What errors did the family make?
I saw this coming the day of the event. This should surprise no one.
