Like everyone else, The Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards was a Beatles fan, but he said they werent a particularly great live band.
Musically, the Beatles had a lovely sound and great songs. But the live thing? They were never quite there, he told the Radio Times
And while Richards was friends with The Beatles in their early years, he excommunicated them in 1967 after they became influenced by mystic leader Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, NME reported.
He was a fing operator, a sucker job, Richards said of Yogi.

to his credit, Keith did a great job with the Chuck Berry tribute, Hail Hail Rock and Roll.
Yes was outstanding live, my favorite live band was Jethro Tull. Really efficient, accurate and together.
One man gathers what another man spills
4 of the shows were in the top 10 I've ever seen by any band and two sucked.
In that top 10 are Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd and J Giels.
Agreed. I saw that tour in Syracuse, and it was incredible.
Politics aside, the Dead were the best band in concert. Springsteen was a close second, but the Dead shows had much more depth.
The Dead and Company shows happening now are getting there. John Mayer and Otiel get it. Too bad Bobby has fizzled.
Agreed with Yes.Also Pink Floyd.
At the Stones concert I went to I was right next to the stage. At the Beatles concert I was in the nosebleed section in a baseball stadium so can’t really compare.
I saw The Beatles live in 1966, and considering the primitive equipment they worked with at the time (compared to nowadays concerts) and the deafening screams of teenage girls, I thought they sounded really good, just like their records. They were a top notch live band, which is what got them to where they were in the first place.
Also saw The Animals live around that time period. They were great too.
The Who LIVE AT LEEDS is sloppy ??? I beg to differ . And I saw them at Woodstock . Reason they were a bit sloppy their was because they were tired ( having had to wait until just before dawn to play ) and their drinks being spiked .
Saw The Kinks ( my fave band as a kid in the 60’s ) 3 times . First tim was with The Beach Boys and The Doors around 1972 and they sucked bigtime . Preservation time with all the horns and backuo singers + Ray was drunk as a skunk as were most of the rest of the band . In 1978 they were great and also in Tokyo in 1991 .
Saw King Crimson last fall... they were awesome!
pardon typos .
Yep. The lyrics for “Sexy Sadie” were originally “Maharishi”.
We gave her everything we
Owned just to sit at her table
Just a smile would lighten everything
Sexy Sadie she’s the
Latest and the greatest of them all.
She made a fool of everyone
Saw the Stones a few years ago and they were damn good. Bot “Eagles” good, but good.
The Kinks’ songs used all four chords, too.
Who’s LIVE AT LEEDS # 3 of greatest live albums ever . NME . http://www.nme.com/list/the-50-greatest-live-albums-ever/372887/page/5
“The Kinks songs used all four chords, too.”
They started out with simple songs like You Really Got Me , etc...but soon after got out of the power chord business and created some amazing songs / albums from 66 onwards . You , obviously , are unaware of that fact .
After they became big, they couldn’t hear themselves over the screaming and neither could anyone else. I had a friend who was living in Japan at the time and saw the Beatles there. They came out and of course the girls were screaming hysterically. Unlike other places though, when they started playing Japanese politeness overcame Beatlemaina and they all stopped and sat down. Suddenly the Beatles could hear themselves playing for the first time in years, and their guitars were all out of tune. So they stopped to tune them, and of course the fans all started screaming again as soon as they stopped. They asked the audience to be quite while they tuned, but nobody understood them. So they had to tune up while playing.
