I have lost track of the number of people on this site that don’t care and think there is no possibility of nefarious dealings. Personally, I think they are idiots for ignoring the real possibility but to each his own.
Truth is, there was definitely some copying and I refuse to believe it was by mistake (I also do not believe Mrs. Trump wrote it herself). A speechwriter did that on purpose, and I believe they did that to create the hullabaloo we are currently seeing. Nothing big, nothing substantive, but all the same still something that is unnecessary.
My hope is that there is a thorough vetting of all staff. Why? While this case is more of a nuisance, there might be other more substantative attempts in the future. Ones that are more substance and less sizzle. Especially considering Trump, unlike past GOP nominees that only had to worry about the Dems, has to worry about BOTH the Dems and the Never Trump GOP branch.
I am more concerned about the illness in the California deligation.
Sabotage was the first thing that came to my mind, as I am sure it was for Trump.
It’s not that I don’t care, or that I’m ruling out fowl play or incompetence.
The problem is that as soon as we join in the rush to assign blame, we are conceding there is a problem, when there isn’t.
Ideally, this stupid nothing burger would be treated as just that, a nothing burger. I would react like Manafort and say something like, “yeah these phrases are boilerplate, you see them repeated in these kinds of speeches all the time. Like different writers describing a sunset are going to sound very similar. Ponds have ripples, trees sway in the breeze, clouds have silver linings, so what, big deal. She’s not publishing a theory in a scientific journal.
Trump is great at getting past these attempts to make him look bad, precisely because he doesn’t go all wobbly and prematurely concede there is a problem, and he doesn’t start pointing fingers, apologizing and firing his staff.
Let Trump get past this his way; Lord knows he’s a lot better at it than your typical Republican who freaks out and ends up resigning or suspending his campaign over NOTHING!
Name-calling is not nice. In fact, the Bible reads that a
person who says, “Thou fool!” shall be in danger of hell
fire. YOU seem to be attempting to throw a monkey wrench in
the works by referring to any of us who are leery of
accusations as “idiots”. - Of course, ANYTHING is POSSIBLE
and should be looked at. - Part of the problem is the
frantic push by liberals to find ANYTHING to cast a
beautiful, educated woman in a bad light if she crosses
their Queen Hitler-y Clinton.
I think that because Mrs. Trump did not show up in a low
cut, busom revealing gown (which they hoped for); they had
to lock on to something, ANYTHING to pummel her with. -
I’m not anxious to see speech writers’ heads roll; but if
someone is found to be a mole, then fire them.
It’s not that I don’t care, I just don’t think the election hinges on this issue. In the end it will be a nothing burger.
If it’s sabotage, the Trump campaign will find out and fire his or her ass. This won’t be the last time someone from the gope tries to undermine the nominee, and I still think Trump will win with breathing room.
