This year’s “ESPY Awards” on ABC opened with NBA stars Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, Dwyane Wade and LeBron James delivering a message regarding last week’s death of two African-Americans at the hands of law enforcement, and the Dallas attack on police officers that left five dead and several others injured.
“We cannot ignore the realities of the current state of America,” Anthony said. “The events of the past week have put a spotlight on the injustice, distrust and anger that have plagued so many of us. The system is broken. The problems are not new. The violence and the racial divide is definitely not new. But, the urgency to create change is at an all-time high.”
Chris Paul then listed off Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, Eric Garner, Laquan McDonald, Alton Sterling and Philando Castile as “our reality,” hoping athletes can follow in the footsteps of John Carlos, Tommie Smith, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jim Brown, Billie Jean King and Arthur Ashe.
Wade added, “The racial profiling has to stop. The ‘shoot to kill’ mentality has to stop. Not seeing the value of black and brown bodies has to stop. But also the retaliation has to stop. The endless gun violence, in places like Chicago, Dallas, not to mention Orlando, it has to stop. Enough. Enough is enough.”
“We all feel helpless and frustrated by the violence. We do, but that’s not acceptable. It’s time to look in the mirror and ask ourselves, ‘What are we doing to create change?’ James asked.

Why don’t all of you go out in the “hood” and tell the gangs to stop their sh*t?????
Somebody needs to tell BLM to stop profiling non-blacks.
No way, they won’t be placated until they can turn Chicago, Detroit, and Oakland into Zimbabwe. Lawless hellholes run by blacks. Oh wait, they’ve already done that.
BLM and other racist hate groups must stop killing innocent white police officers. Dump the thug sub-culture of the black community before you blame this on Americans.
Does that include the black profiling of all whites as racist simply due to their whiteness?
Yep. Don’t want to be profiled? It’s really simple. Stop looting, rioting, stealing, robbing, killing, and raping and start working and being a good people. You will be a-m-a-z-e-d at how different people treat you and actually want to talk to and help you if you need it.
Racial Profiling has to stop.
I agree - stop lecturing me about my “white privilege”.
Eff them. They will do what a police officer tells them to do like the rest of the population.
Or they will continue to meet a police response.
One set of laws for black folks and another set for white folks?
Buahahahahaha!
This is why ESPN is a drag on the value of Disney stock.
It's all propaganda.
National Felon League
National Batterers Association
I refuse to watch games on ESPN. They need a boycott.
I believe you are either part of the problem or part of the solution. So far, speeches aren’t changing anything. Maybe these outspoken sports heroes can be part of the solution.
These athletes are dupes, and they simply spouted cliches.
We need people to speak FACTS.
After the protest on the I-40 bridge in Memphis, the interim police director Mike Rallings offered a challenge to the various gang members that for the next thirty days, there will be no killings in Memphis. That lasted less than 24 hours. So sad. There have been several since then.
Translation: you whites, and cops, need to stand down and let blacks do whatever they want without repercussions of any kind.
I don’t watch awards shows. Doesn’t matter whether it’s the Oscars, Emmys or ESPYs. They are nothing more than the entertainment industry’s version of masturbation. That fact right there was enough to convince me to stop watching them 20 years ago, but now it’s unbelievable to me that they are used as a vehicle to promote the queer, racist and leftist agendas. No thanks.
The raciial profiling on tv is always aimed at whites.
Sure, just as soon as 6% of the population (black males) stops committing nearly 50% of all the violent crimes.
