Colleen Burns, 35, of Orlando, was hiking with friends near the South Kaibab Trail on Friday when she accidentally slipped off an edge at Ooh Aah Point, Grand Canyon National Park official tells PEOPLE.
Park rangers located her body about 400 feet below where she was standing.
...
One friend who was with Burns on the trail described her final moments to WESH.
"She was just, like, stepping out of the way for another gentleman to, kind of, squeeze in," Jessica Roman told the station. "Unfortunately, Colleen just kind of got tripped up on her own feet and fell backwards. She fell into the canyon."

It's bad. I live near both Yosemite and Death Valley Nat'l Parks and I can't believe the stuff going on there. Wading into a pool just feet away from the top of Yosemite Falls with a 1,400 foot drop, etc. (2,400' total including the lower falls. They found a German tourist lying dead next to his motorcycle on a dirt road in Death Valley last month, seems he was riding along in 120+ degree heat.
I was in a mood yesterday.
Yesterday is today.
Weird, huh?
You definitely have more nads than I. I have nightmares about falling off cliffs.
A heavily traveled trail which frequently makes lists of America's 10 Most Dangerous Hikes. The most cited risk is dehydration, particularly during summer months. But having been down the trail a number of times (winter) one of my major concerns was tourists and inexperienced hikers who may have no concept that there are accepted courtesies relating to things like right of way. As to stepping out of the way for another gentleman to, kind of, squeeze in," you have to be kidding.
I don’t mind heights at all; it’s that abrupt STOP at the very end that’s hard to take! ;)
Tight spaces freak me out. I can be very claustrophobic.
*SHUDDER*
We were there a year and a half ago during Thanksgiving week which one would not think would be so crowded but if you take the free bus west and get off at the stops with the tourists, especially mid to late afternoon, its totally insane. People pushing crowding to the edge, trying to climb down/out beyond the railings. It’s a wonder more people don’t fall off. Mr. Mercat and I only road the bus to return from a bike ride. Being on the bikes we could stop where ever we wanted. Confession however, we did take the bikes on trails where they were not supposed to go but walked the dicey bits and in one or two cases, had to carry them (Mr. Mercat God bless him not me). Cool thing about the bikes - the busses have bike racks. Also cool, vets and old people (we qualify both) have priority seating although we had to tell the bus driver who bumped people. Mr. M wouldn’t let me bump people however when we had just ridden our bikes. LOL So we did stand a lot.
One of my granddaughters visited this Skydeck and took pics of her feet when she was standing on the glass floor. I couldn’t even look at them.
.
I have a fairly big fear of heights, but Moki Dugway did not freak me out too much.
You owe me a keyboard...
The Rio Grande Gorge is an entirely different matter, though.

And see, I love those places and love heights. I love glass elevators and those safe ledges that allow those views. When I worked in a high rise in college, myself and a friend had a game we would play. We would sit in the rolling office chair and roll ourselves fast to the full length window to get a feel that we were about to go over the edge. It was such a thrill, but the one guy with fear of heights could not play. I love flying in little planes and one dream is to ever fly in a helicopter.
I have zero desire to drop or fall, I just like looking from up high.
lol, great pic.
why walk when you can ride?.....poor lady I hope angels grabbed her soul mighty quick...horrible...I was at that big canyon west of Taos last month freaking out bird dogging my risk taker boys
