Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Somewhere, in my computer files, I have a photo of Sir Sean Connery in his full Scottish regalia. I don’t look at it too often. Drool is not good for the keyboard. ;o]
“You give me lemons? After all the work I do, trying to look squee? LEMONS?”
If life hands you lemons, swear vengeance as soon as you can develop opposable thumbs.
Yes, he was lovely.
LOL!
They’ll get us eventually.
*tagline*
Well, I’m confused.
Exactly!
As soon as I open the clubhouse, I’m going to go get some gas in the truck, then go to Wally’s for stuff. I can’t go there without a list, or I have no idea why I’m there.
I got a reminder yesterday for my appointment tomorrow, so I will pick up the prescription while I’m there.
On top of everything else, I’ve developed a cough and have had a problem with my nose leaking, even though I take Benadryl for my allergies. This is not a good combination. No doubt, I will have a full-blown cold by the time I’m ready to fly. Masks. That will help a little.
All these years with no colds, and suddenly, my body wants to get one. I can’t help but wonder if the anemia is the reason.
;>)
I own a 2003 Ford Escape with about 215600 on it that is still running well.
I’m not buying a new car, or even a new used car, to park in Manhattan until this one absolutely can’t run any more.
Even then I probably will use some variant of Zip car before I’ll park another car I own around here.
When I was young everyone was going off to “find themselves.”
I figured out quickly that finding yourself was what happened when you weren’t looking.
Yah...like that. Thanks! *slobber*
Yes, I’ve heard of people doing that. I was too busy being a military wife and mother to do anything as selfish as “finding myself,” so I figure now is as a good a time as any to start the hunt!
OK. Now I have my own new tagline.
Excellent tagline!
I have a life, mostly at Walmart. Off I go again. I need a few things for my prayer group.
When I stopped to gas up the truck this morning, Arco charged me .35 cents for using a debit card. I need that .35 cents, because I’m not done with business today and tomorrow.
That really irritated me. When it was “Rebel” gas, they didn’t charge, even though it was owned by Arco. This is the last time I go there. I’ll go to Sinclair, which is just as far but in the opposite direction. Arco can gouge the tourists on their ways to Lake Mead.
I have to go get some ink, but I think I’ll wait until I’m on my way out of town tomorrow. Or when I get back...
Now I’m going to go fold the clothes and put them away and have another breathing treatment. My chest doesn’t feel all that great today.
OK, now I'm laughing.
NOTE TO SELF: Looking for images that involve the words Walmart and funny is not safe for work.
