New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Wellnow. This makes me very proud. To be leaving the State of Corrupted Officials, that is.

The Knights collect cards, too, so that the recipients of the non-perishable food products can buy some perishables.

The clothes are clean. I’ve been up since midnight, so I’m going to go in and have a breathing treatment, then hang the clothes and then go open the clubhouse.

The day has not started well, but I will try to make the rest of it much better. I just need to wait for SW Medical’s switchboard to open, then I can work out the rest of what ails me. ;o]

It looks like I will have to carry the nebulizer as there may not be room for that and my clothes. The small things are in place, but I need to make sure I have the right clothes packed. I think I can do that tomorrow, then I can decide about the nebulizer.

We have to take the Avalon to the shop: it’s got an electrical glitch. Sigh. Then we’ll go to the gym while they figure it out.

Be sure to check all the grounding connections. They tend to get ignored.

Good morning everyone.

What are the FR rules on vanity posts? I want to get a new word out into the lexicon and start using it in arguments.

Logophobe - one who uses words without meaning due to an irrational fear of using meaningful words in a rational argument.

Usage:

Them: You’re just a racist!

You: Stop being such a logophobe! I refuse to even discuss things with logophobes. Go away and come back when you’ve gotten help.

I don’t know about Food Banks, but around here the homeless shelters have access to actual food sources in PA that send them truckloads of good, fresh food. They don’t store much from stores.

I remember once in Omaha my wife was asked to stop donating bags of rice and beans. She thought she was being efficient but the person said, “Nobody who comes here for food would know what to do with that.”

I think if I were that prosecutor I’d send a thank-you note to Dingy Harry’s exercise room and be done with it.

Also the wiring harnesses.

One year (back when new car warranties were only good for a year) I had three different parts of the ignition system blow out. When I took it in for the 3rd ignition problem I said, “Don’t just fix the part. There’s something else wrong that’s causing all these to blow. Find that and fix it.”

They found where wires were routed on the OUTSIDE of a wiring harness and had been rubbed so that they would occaionally short each other and blow out something.

That’s the trouble with dealer mechanics. They fix the symptom and don’t even look for a cause.

I’m worn out already! I want to sleep, but I’m afraid to lie down, because I may sleep too long. And then I won’t get anything done.

I don’t know about the shelters in Vegas (to my knowledge, Henderson doesn’t have any) but whatever they need, they go on TV and make a plea for specific items, like toiletries, toys and children’s clothes. Or business clothing so people can go to job interviews and become gainfully employed.

Late summer, several organizations did “stuff the bus” drives with school supplies and coats for winter for all ages of kids. The fire departments got in on that, too, with “stuff the truck.” I heard somewhere that Vegas is the “most giving city” in the country, and I believe it.

Right now, there is a drive by one of the radio stations is having toy drive. They want to fill 30 trailer trucks with bikes alone, and then more trucks with other toys. A DJ is sleeping on a scaffolding/rooftop for two weeks solid to make this happen. Last year, in addition to the toys, they got almost $500,000.00 in gift cards and cash.

There is also a furniture store here that gives away housefuls of furniture to meet individual needs of 30-50 families every Christmas.

I’m afraid a pen would explode in my hand when I went to sign my name to anything addressed to “Guido, the Exercise Machine, c/o Harry Reid.”

How fortunate can I get? No appointments available for my non-doctor to order a blood test to see how anemic I am, since this last bout of bleeding ulcers.

I asked the switchboard to call the “team” and ask them to order one, and I can go down to the local SWM for the test.

And I’m tired! It took 35 minutes for that. *sheesh*

I’m going to try and pack the plates today, but I don’t know how successful I’ll be. I’m winded!

I’ll have another breathing treatment (non-steroid) and then go outside with the peeps. I have to keep the phone handy, though.

Tom says he has no equipment to check grounding connections.

No word yet from our mechanic-guy, but it’s no big deal We can get by without the car for a day or two.

You did?

The car got a new battery and the tail light fixed. Other stuff was not broken.

Not bad.

My worst battery story was when my battery would keep crapping out and then work again. It turned out the terminal screw I had bought was on the order of 1mm too long and would allow the cable to joggle loose occasionally.

Talk about annoying!

No other stuff broken? Excellent news!

The best I can do is get to my appointment on Wednesday and pick up the prescription. There are no appointments available at the clinic until January, so all I can do is hope the CSR sent the email I requested about the blood draw.

In the meantime, things are not going that good for me, but I’ll hang in there. I will need a lot more yogurt and rice pudding before I leave, just to keep from eating things I shouldn’t.

I did manage to build a box, but my stomach distracted me from actually sitting down and man-handling the newspapers to prevent the dishes from banging together.

Since I was hungry, I tried to eat something and it didn’t like me, much. It made me sick. More rice pudding, I guess, since I can’t get cowbell... ;o])
