New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

There is a faint gray daylight oozing around here, so I assume the sun is still out there somewhere.

Happy Trash Day! I’m going to get dressed soon and then organize a trip to Weight Watchers. Maybe I’ll nap today: I was up even earlier again today.

Trash day it is, but we will also have pick-up on Friday, since this is “commercial” property. Residential I believe is once a week here, twice in Vegas. Same company, though. Go figger.

I’ve been trying to find an email address for Fellowes so I can send them an email about my shredder, and though in several places on their website is the statement, “...or send us an email.” No email address.

I really need that shredder. I have too many documents with personal information to throw out whole. They need to be fed into a cross-cut shredder. Is this Monday, again?

If you were here, you could put your papers on the floor and catz would shred them.

Kids, kids, let’s leave the bickering to the Dems, shall we?

We’re all old enough to know better than to do the things we do, so we’re even.

Happy Trash Day!

You're singing my song.

Although trash collection is 24/6 around here so only Sunday isn't trash day.

That was actually the popular summary until Jesus was asked. Then it became, treat others as you would like to be treated.

If anyone is interested, Chuck will be moving into a rehab hospital, soon. He is able to talk and feels pain in his left leg, but his arm isn’t doing well.

He is talking and is understood when his teeth are in place, and hasn’t lost his sense of humor. Zeke is doing everything he can to handle Chuck’s business until Chuck can do it himself. We are all thinking about how this same thing could happen to any of us.

And of course, the resident busybody, Berta, is up to her old tricks trying to run Chuck’s business. Chuck can’t stand her, and she doesn’t even know when he has insulted her.

In other news, my shredder lives. I called Fellowes today and went through all kinds of troubleshooting techniques, and as I was replacing the shredder on the basket, preparing for the purchase of a new one, I looked up and saw that the wall switch was in the “off” position. I would be embarrassed if it wasn’t so funny! Musta been a blonde day for me!

Talking legs and arms that can’t talk as well without their teeth. What kind of hospital is Chuck in?

As to the blonde moment - I could tell you about the time I accidentally shut down Prod for 30 minutes but I probably already have.

It’s a recessive gene, but it’s never really gone.

Yep. Just when I think I have everything under control, a blonde moment comes along to show me who’s boss. ;o]
