Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Very pretty. Sheep and all.

“I hope we don’t have to be like those sheep, and eat all this grass.”
So beautiful! Thanks, Moosie!
LOL! Good morning, folks.
Vlad is loading his things in the trunk of the car; he’s going to camp this afternoon.
I feel like those kittehs spent the night frolicking in my bed. *foosh* I’m tired.
How long will he be gone?
I didn’t get up until after 5:30 today. DP was dreaming about Tom. “How do you know?” he asked. “Because you were talking.”
Back on Sunday.
I think it’s morning.
Still slammed at work. The days are blurring.
Thursday morning, July 21, 2016. Best wishes for getting through the day!
Just hang onto the UT...we’ll guide you through it! :o])
That’s a nice little vacation for someone. ;o]
I’m still trying to get to the carwash. But I may have to wait until payday, as I will have to use what’s left in the stash for food tomorrow morning.
My arm itched during the night but at least I didn’t scratch it open and make it bleed again. I keep bathing it with antiseptic wash, but between this and my finger in May and June, even that is running low. I just need it to last until payday.
I put on a T-shirt this morning that I haven’t worn in a couple of years, and it fits me looser than ever. YAY! It looks like I’m about 12# away from my goal, now, and that is a good feeling. Of course, I’ll have to buy skinny clothes, but we will see what happens. Maybe all that packing will help me lose the last of it, if I don’t lose it before then.
I need to get book and banker’s boxes. Fourteen of the former and four of the latter. And a dish pack. The rest of the stuff will go in tubs.
(I figured out, when I get to my goal weight, that I will have lost a Sixth Grader in poundage!)
Fourteen boxes of books! Books are very heavy.
Tonight and tomorrow we’ll have “only” Bill, Sally, Frank, and Kathleen at home. Pat and James will be back by noon Saturday. Tom will come home Sunday night. (I told him to shower first.)
Elen won’t be back until August 7.
Yes, and that’s why book boxes are smallish and sturdy. Too bad they don’t have finger holds...
My son just asked if I was any closer to St George, and I said it wasn’t going to happen until after the first of the year. He didn’t seem happy about that, but I can’t rush it. By trying to do so, I’m silently implying that I want someone to die or be so ill they have to go to hospice, just so I can have that apartment. No thanks. I’ll wait my turn.
Wow. Only four kids at home? You’re almost an empty-nester!
Ohno -— the yard service is here again. They are the noisiest bunch. I will have to shut my door in about five minutes.
I took Vlad and Frank for a preamble around Lake Park during Kathleen’s swimming lesson. We met a cat who was far too superior (and fat) to get off the cushioned porch chair and acknowledge us.
And while you were doing that, I vacuumed, shook the rugs and mopped the floors that got the most traffic, and then I brought in the drop leaf table that I got from one of the residents who is in hospice. I wanted the matching hutch, but someone else took it while my back was turned.
At any rate, I am beat up. Oh yes — I swept the patio, too, since the wind isn’t blowing.
And downloaded a lot of pics from Webshots for my background and screen saver.
And it’s only 0830...
So maybe I will work on Chuck’s door snake. After I have a breathing treatment...
Your productivity puts me to shame. I’ve been sitting here reading National Review and talking politics with Bill, in between making hot dogs and cleaning them up.
Next we’re going to the library, and then there should be a chance to lie down before taking Vlad to meet his camp carpool.
It will subside for the next month, so not to worry. In the meantime, I just remembered I have a prescription to pick up. This one is for my neck. *sigh* Choices, choices...
The bottom just dropped out of my sugar — gotta eat something quick...
