Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Yep. We’ve had snow, slush, ice, rain, and then more snow...
The usual. :-)
*hugs*
We have more warm and dry.
We have cold and damp. Sunny, but cold.

I’d drink a Thanksgiving toast later on, but I have nothing to toast with, so I’ll just lift my water jug. (By the handle, of course!)
Yes, I’m here. We arrived in August (117 degrees) but the weather is lovely now.
We’ve been in our new house for a month, and yesterday the heavy equipment arrived to dig a large hole in our backyard. Looks like a good spot for a pool.
Party at my place!
I’m be over as soon as the pool is warm enough! LOL!
Just came back from the playground with Kathleen. There was a young Russian woman there with a little boy. The boy had a stroller like a Mini Cooper, and Kathleen pushed him around a little.
"But water becomes wine to me,
A sacrament to swallow,
And every crust of bread, to me,
Is sacred to behold,
And every coin that comes to me,
I feel is made of gold."
I try to be thankful for small things, because they come about more often.
Jesus was a Pisces...
Lol,
Happy Thanksgiving, Nully.
Yes, He is! Happy Thanksgiving, Nully! *hug*
There are so many things to be thankful for, I couldn’t even list them all in my prayer of thanksgiving this morning. I am even thankful for the mistakes I make because I can learn from them.
So, yes, Bob, the small things DO come about more often.
And I count you as one of my blessings. :o]
Yes. That’s what’s wrong with my day, so far! I need coughie!
(Is that from Shirtwoot?)
I sat out with Charlie for about 45 minutes, but we both got too cold to sit in the north wind any longer.
So one of us was wise enough to say, “I’ve had enough!”
And trust me, this was no walk in the playground!
I had a nap. I’m not exactly full of vim today.
I’m tired, too, and I will soon go to bed.
It was a quiet day, but I did get a call from Hockeybughow and his wife, and my son has a nasty head and chest cold. I feel bad about that, and I’m thinking it’s the same one that has been decimating the valley here.
During the quietest time, I went through the VHS tapes, to make sure I had a list of all for the move. I don’t want any to come up missing. I will need to know the size of the CD-ROMs to buy, in order to make sure I don’t cut any of the movies off before the end.
But I will ping some folks on that, tomorrow. No rush, just yet.
LuDean gave me a set of eight books for a “fun read,” she says. About a girl who is married to a son of the devil. Hmmmm... We’ll see when I get to the opening page of the first chapter of the first book. I’ll let y’all know.
I hope your dinner is a good one, and I have thanked God several times today for my FRiends, and especially for you, who listens to me no matter how crazy I sound. Thank you! *hug*
Oh, I’ve got other friends that are crazier than you!
We’re going to eat soon, I think. I just put the sweet potato pies in the oven. Jake is excited about the turkey. It’s quiet without Tom, although I hear someone playing the electric guitar upstairs. Bill came home around noon, said they were finished their deli takeout orders and told to get off the clock.
That's hard to believe! I've had so many melt-downs in the last two years, it's a miracle you still talk to me! So thank you again! And now, I'm off to bed! <3
