Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Didn’t quite get here soon enough.
Too much snow? We have a sprinkling of snow on Mt Charleston from yesterday’s storm. It looks pretty, but I’m glad I don’t have to dust off my winter driving skills. ;o]
Are you going to cook Thanksgiving dinner?
I’m not even thinking Christmas, and I won’t until Thanksgiving is over. I’m still focused on Thanksgiving, and planning a very quiet day at home. I suspect even my internet friends will be quiet on that day, and all Facebook is going to show me is other people’s dinner plates.
On Monday, I can start making some plans for who is going to take me to the airport and bring me back when I get back to Vegas. And Monday is soon enough to think about Christmas. I get OD’d on that stuff in a hurry.
My goodness, it’s quiet in here today...
Where is everyone?
Trying most desparately NOT to think about Christmas when there are ads EVERYWHERE.
Just doing the impossible with very little whilst working on our next miracle with nothing.
Evening ‘Face. :)
You’d never know that for first century followers of Christ the day of His birth was so unimportant it’s been nearly forgotten.
I try to tell Christians all the time that Christmas is actually a little holiday Biblically. You’d think I was telling them Satan was the Messiah or something.
Hang in there, Moosie. Remember, God made the world in only six days. ;o] Of course, what He didn’t tell us was how long each of those days were...
And with that, I’m going to go find a soft, warm place and call it a day. Be good to yourself, Moosie!

They actually think Santa is not the myth in this ad.
((Hugs)) :)
Lucky for me, I don’t go very many places, nor do I go often, so I’m not bombarded by Christmas displays. Being retired does have a few perks. ;o]
I’m not looking forward to flying to my son’s for Christmas. I hate to fly and he knows it because he does, too. And his wife is not my favorite person. I just don’t understand her animosity towards me. But that’s OK. I have forgiven her, and I will continue to do so.
One of these days, she might figure out that I’m not competition for her husband. Maybe.
Wasn’t the date moved from mid-summer, or something?
As Bea Arthur used to say, “God’ll get you for that.” The atheists are so afraid that a Supreme Being is real that they will do anything to try and convince other people of it. Not going to work. He will be their Final Judge.
He was actually born in the spring. I can’t recall why December 25th was chosen, but I just read it recently. My brainz! They’re scarmabled!
And with that, I must be off (which most of you already knew).
