Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

And speaking of parents, I just got the date for Bill’s graduation ceremony and emailed it to my mother. First college graduation in a looooong time.
Good for Bill graduation ceremony. I’m sure his grandmother is proud.
While I was out, (I went to the Dollar Tree instead of the thrift store,) I got a Christmas tie for James, with a snowman on it. And little lights that blink on and off! I have a tie and tie tack ready (I think I’ve had it six months) for his birthday on December 2, so this tie will be just a fun thing. And since Christmas is on Sunday, he will have an excuse to wear it.
Now I need to get him a birthday card, and fast, so I can get this stuff sent before his birthday. My son wanted him born on the second, and since my grandson was Caesarian, that was done. I’ve always thought it was inconsiderate because I don’t get my money until the 3rd!
Anyway, it was a fun trip out, thanks! I then went to Smith’s and found some wine that sounded like it would taste good. But I will need to get some yogurt tomorrow, and a maybe a small box of crackers to get me through the next week. *sigh* Now I understand why my mother said eating was a waste of time. She said you no sooner get it digested and you have to eat again!
I think there’s only enough for three yogurts.
I went to make a sandwich today, and all I had were hamburger buns, which is OK because they are potato buns. But they are beginning to dry out.
*whine-whine-whine*
Nellis AFB is having their annual air show today, and I feel bad that I don’t live close enough to see the Thunderbirds do their thing, like I did when I lived in North Las Vegas. I miss that.
I am cold, and I think I need another breathing treatment. And I’m very tired. And I want some chocolate.
Check your periphery for Dementors.
I just got a cheap ($3) motion sensor, and I’m trying to find a place to hang it so it faces my truck.
I suspect when the stalker is asked to pack up her belongings and disappear into the sunset, she will lash out at me, because of my recent meetings with Zeke, the object of her obsession. Needless to say, I can’t afford to have my tires slashed, which is an action she has done in the past with someone else.
The air show was very nice. In addition to the flying, they had a large gathering of reenactors and displays, from World War I to the Iraq War. One very interesting gentleman was dressed as a WW2 British paratrooper, and he explained, among other things, that the British had better equipment.
Better equipment than the Russian Paratroopers, I’m sure.
No doubt. Someone had some Russian guns, but not much else.
That's about what the Russian Paratroopers had.
Poor kitty!
Witness protection program kitty
Nobody will recognize him.
SQUEE!! Two for the price of one, today! Thanks!
I had to go to Wally’s for three yogs. The end.
Hey! Friday the 13th falls on Sunday this month! :o])
And Zeke is going to try and put up my $3 motion detector today, but I think it will need to wait for tomorrow, when Carlos is here. He can lend us a ladder, as I think it will need to go on the eave.
The Unknown Catmic.
LOL!
Good morning. I’m exhausted. I’m going to do more laundry now.
We’re going to visit a place that specializes in Christmas decorations.
To any and all questions today, the answer will be “No!”
That sounds a bit threatening!
It’s raining here.
