Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

South Dublin, comma, where?
We are also confused by these happenings, many of which are abby normal even for California.
Throw in a crazy real estate market on top of the normal crazy, and you get super crazy.
Homes that were selling for a couple of hundred K a few years ago are now selling for a Million plus.
That brings out all types of greed from owners and their off spring. When seniors get remarried, they want to stay with their growing nest egg. Their adult children grow very wary of any new step parents due to the home values. This creates some weird living arrangements.
Our trust lawyer is working 7 days a week trying to keep up with the changes in real estate value and trying to keep those with merging homes and their adult children satisfied with their trusts.
Responding to post 3, SJB? You’ll never catch up on your reading material that way.
That looks like a bad place for a cat to be sitting. Where is the splitting axe?
I ditto Tax-chick:
“South Dublin, comma, where?”
I think kitteh will make a great leap before the axe arrives.
Looks like a little bandit with that mask around his eyes. Floofy!
Yeah, I wouldn’t trust him!
60/78, SE @ 2 mph, 35%, mostly clear.
We shall see when I go out for my 0530 meeting with Zeke.
I didn’t sleep well last night, and thought I would set the alarm and get up at 0500. HAH! I woke up at 0350 when the mattress pad shut off (as I always do) and was just settling back down when the phone rang. He Who Shall Not Be Named was NOT on the other end. And then the texting began.
I think Zeke won that round. It’s a good thing I have made copies of all the correspondence the SNRHA has sent him. *sheesh*
He scares them. Haha! He has some powerful friends, and I hope at least two of them show up for that meeting on the 10th.
SW Medical called me last night, and rescheduled the epidural for my neck, so that will be the 29th. I will have a ride, this time.
I think you’re right. He would steal your heart in a New York Minute, whatever that means.
Good for Zeke. I hope he accomplishes something positive for your community, with your able assistance.
Well, I didn’t expect that!
The capitol of Ireland.
I’m not even sure what a New York minute is.
But I do know that the shortest measured span of time is that between the light turning green and the second car in line honking its horn in NYC.
That would be very different!
I think I’ve done about all the damage I can do for one day, so in the interest of those who have real lives, I’m going to go get parallel to the deck to save them from my weird posts. ;o]
The day wasn’t too unproductive, as I managed to get about five more pages done in my personal history. I’ve discovered that, in view of recent events and revelations, I need to pray before I start to write. It’s the only way I’m going to make any progress.
Otherwise, it will be too devastating for me to sit here and examine the last 50 years. Today was a good day for writing, but my fatigue is now catching up with me, so I’m going to take some Ibuprofen and head for the Blanket Show.
See you all in the morning.
Hope you have a good night! A boy from Frank’s Cub Scouts den came over this afternoon and met the reptiles, and then we went to the park. DP, Pat, James, and Vlad have just left for a campout - Vlad’s first trip with the Boy Scouts. I’m taking Elen, Sally, and Frank uptown to a musical performance, “Moses” by Father Ho Lung and a group of Jamaican musicians.
Father Ho Lung, who looks like a very tall Dalai Lama, always makes a cameo appearance in a dance number.
Always the same little number? Is that the only dress he has?
Maybe you and the other parishioners should get together and help him expand his wardrobe. Constantly dressing in the same ecclesiastical robes and dance number gowns might give folks the wrong idea about him.
