Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Is that an oarfish?
J. D. Vance really nailed it.
I’m in the book, in more ways than one.
Still have some reading to do.
I’m a petite bourgeoise from several generations back, but I recognized my in-laws. (Not the Sicilian step-in-laws, the “real” ones.)
What a sweet little face! SQUEE!
One (other) thing I learned from my mother was that things look better in the morning. It’s true. They do.
But I don’t have much hope for this day, as I ran out of lunch food and am stuck with carbohydrates. The worst things I can eat. I’m currently in one of “those” cycles where I eat carbs, then crash, then eat more carbs, then crash again because I don’t even have any cheese to stop the cycle. Payday can’t get here soon enough.
And OH. DANG. I just remembered: I have a blood draw in the morning, and I don’t have the “free Obamacare” fee for the co-pay. I’ll try to re-schedule for next week. As long as I get it done before my appointment in November.
Glad to know things are looking better. It’s sunny here.
I’m going...
...to troll...
...for post 5050!
We must be related...
‘Morning, Nully.
I think my daughter is going to vote for Killary.
She needs to move to Puget Sound.
(I saw what you did there. Thanks.)
We are plagued by fog this morning. My truck is covered with water drops. Rust, anyone?
I need to go have a breathing treatment, since there is so much moisture in the air. 98% when I got up. *sheesh*
Winter is here, and my jacket is woefully inadequate, even at the start of the season. Thin blood is not fun.
5150 would have been more appropriate...
Is it summer, yet?
*sigh*
If only I had been born rich instead of so doggone good looking...
Yeah, me too.
I’ve been cleaning while Patrick does math. *achoo* The Advent Kitteh will be here in one month + 2 days, waving her plumy tail and sneering ...
After lunch, we’ll go to the library. Tom is hanging my dollar-store bats in the tree outside, using his Helpful Height.
I keep threatening to get myself an Advent Calendar, but I can always think of a better place to spend my money, though the calendar would be fun for me, I think. I may or may not put up the Nativities this year, so an Advent Calendar may be my only decoration. If I can find one I like that won’t cost an arm and a leg...
And now, for my next trick, another breathing treatment.
Charlie won’t be at the ramada today, as he has gone on the little bus to shop, so I probably won’t go out. Epic Fail Latino Lawn Service is here again (they were just here on Friday) so it is very noisy out. *foosh*
My next door neighbor brought me two HUGH biscuits, yesterday, telling me to make biscuits and gravy. Hmmmm...one of those things is enough for two of me.
We have sunshine (for now) but there is still fog in the valley, so that looks weird. The humidity is still up, though.
It will only get to 77.
