Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Proof that being wide awake is a relative thing.
I’m not there...
my computer and the TV are both out this morning so I am using my phone waiting for my Nook to finished charging and it’s frustrating beyond belief.
“Wide awake” and “agitated” are related concepts.
At last! It lives! But I have no idea for how long. Repair is coming this afternoon, so I have to be on the alert for a strange number, as they call before they show up.
Anyway, it’s 50 degrees out, NW @ 5mph, 23%.
And the TV just went out again, so no telling how long I’ll have on the ‘net. The whole thing has been wonky for the last week to 10 days, and It’s distressing.
Those babies look like I need to hold them.
On my way to Walgreen’s this morning, I stopped and got gas, as I have a lab appointment at 0500 on Wednesday. I was afraid I wouldn’t have enough left for the prescription but I did. *whew*
I’ve been awake since 0230, and decided at 0315 to just get up and start the day. HAH! At 0340, I was on the phone with Cox. That took almost an hour. And only the computer is good...sorta.
Yes, they are, and I experienced both in unequal measures this morning.
So, here I am, trying to come down off my high anxiety, and behave like a real person. Maybe some chocolate would help me achieve that. Ha-ha.
I stayed up too late reading “Werewolf Cop” by Andrew Klavan. Great book. Finished this morning and took it back to the library.
Now I’m making posters with instructions for the Offspring while DP and I gone this weekend.
Is this the Cub Scout campout?
And has DP had any more problems with chest pains? I hope not. He just needs to relax with a kitteh and he’ll be fine.
No, this is our trip to Yadkinville. The next campout is November 4-6. He hasn’t had more chest pains since he saw the cardiologist and stopped being so nervous about the chest pains ;-).
The little black one is called Audrey, and she's the only solid color kitten among a little of multicolors.
Litter.
Good news about DP.
Ohdang. It sounds like we have a new lawn service, this morning. Why they have to come on Fridays is beyond me. The last one didn’t have big enough equipment for the job. I think this place is four acres, and the last team just wasn’t equipped for the amount of grass.
I just made a cup of coffee and it’s too weak for me. I may have to re-do it later on, as this is just not going to cut it.
Well, since the cats are constructed with multiple uteri, and are outside cats, the litters can be any combination of colors.
Add in the heredity factor and the odds are astronomical.
Cats are amazing!
We’re about to leave. Seeya Sunday!
That's what Obama said.
I was very surprised when I went out and saw it was the Epic Fail Latino Lawn Service from six weeks ago. They are still under-manned, with inadequate equipment.
Strange.
Tax-chick is off for the weekend, and no one has posted any kitteh pics. How am I supposed to start my day without one?
If I knew how, I would do it. But I don’t. So I can’t.
