Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

It's Monday where you are too, huh?
All day.
You're trying to get me to visit, ain'tcha?
It rained all day yesterday, this morning there is snow on the local peaks.
58° inside right now. Maybe I'll turn on the furnace...
Dr. Ian Malcolm: Oh, yeah. Oooh, ahhh, that's how it always starts. Then later there's running and um, screaming.
Is it working?
So come south...no snow here for a while...
Sunny and warm here. I turned the a/c on yesterday afternoon. Kathleen’s riding lesson is rescheduled for later in the day. There goes naptime!
W00t!
Windy and 68...argh!
(I saw what you did. Thanks!)
I hear the big cargo jets taking off from Nellis. It happens several times a week, and you can tell they are loaded down, just by the way they sound.
Three loads of laundry done, and the steroid has been picked up, and I have a meeting to go to at 0930, but I really don’t want to go.
That doggone mosquito got me about seven times on the back of my neck. I thought it was gone, but it would seem I’m destined to fight with it. I need to get some Off! to put on at night, I guess. This is really getting to be a pain.
And I’m still not happy about my trip, as I remember previous visits. Lingolover did everything she could to keep my son away from me, even coming between us for photos. It won’t happen this time. It rankles me to even think about it.
I will no doubt be ready for an early bedtime, as I was up at 0315, but there is nothing scheduled for tomorrow, so that’s good.
Stop letting them watch the news. That’s what starts me screaming..
Stop letting them watch the news. That’s what starts me screaming..
Nothing ruins a good morning post like finding out it’s after noon.
Oh, well. Good morning, Face and Nully.
That should still be right.
Good morning again. It’s almost time to leave for Kathleen’s riding lesson. If I get my planning for Sunday School and Scouts done during the lesson, maybe I can get a few minutes of naptime when we get home.
And good afternoon to you!
I feel like I’ve been caught in a tornado. That wind is just not good for me and my lungs. But do I stay out of it? Nooooo......
It is cute! Thanks!
That’s like a puffin.
And of course ,ridiculously cute.
I have a plush puffin. It’s name is Edna.
