Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

We’re all weird. If you’re not weird that’s really weird.
I didn’t know he was into fast food.
LOL!
Good morning!
I’ve been up but I had to take a shower so I could warm up.
59/82, NW @ 2 mph, 19%, mostly clear. Yesterday, I had to turn the fan in the living room off, but the one in the bedroom will go for a few more nights.
The kittehs are floofy squee today. I just want to hug them!
Keep getting knocked offline, keep getting tied up in stuff.
*ugh*
Good morning! I’ve been to the eye doctor. My prescription changed a bit. I ordered new glasses and picked up Tom’s.
Pouring rain expected to continue most of the day.
Hey! Lookie who’s here!
*hug* I have missed you! <3
I thought you were sick/busy, so I was waiting. Not so patiently!
I was going to go to Walmart, but decided to wait until tomorrow, as tomorrow I have several errands to run. I want to go to the thrift store and look for a few things on my list, but I will have to compare the lists (Walmart, Dollar Store and Thrift Store) and see which one is the most important and which one I will have to forego.
JoAnn’s is one I will have to forego, without even putting it on the list of stores to visit.
I’ve gotten pretty good at making breakfast burritos, but I need to get more bacon. And cheese. Can’t have a breakfast burrito without bacon and cheese. Otherwise, it’s just a tortilla with egg. *blech*
Wow! Never knew what the c stood for.
PS:
And coffee. And creamer. Yes. Those.
makes sense to me.
ha
ha. please excuse typsos. puppy trashed left side of keyboard. replacement wireless keyboard slides around when i’m typing horizontally. go!
For the nit-pickers here, the actual equation is e=mc^2+p^2c^4 (where ^ is the power operator).
The momentum term is usually ignored because the momentum of a photon is near enough to 0 that it doesn’t matter what you multiply it by, it’s going to be overwhelmed by the energy term.
Typsos are excused today since Darks is lurking.
2 in 2 days?
Will wonders never cease.
