New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

My deposit came in overnight, so I have spent the time since I got up making it disappear.

Ungh....

I will wait for tomorrow to see how much is left because a couple of the accounts are late in taking the money out.

And of course, the DMV got their cut. I will probably have to pare down my grocery list before all is said and done. Still, I’m glad I have what little there is; several of the accounts went up by several dollars, like the TV and the insurance, and a couple of medical...

I have other people helping me spend my money. That way, there’s no danger of its accumulating to any embarrassing quantity.

I ran out of address labels so I decided to see if I still had some blank ones (Avery) and sure enough: they were tucked into the same envelope as the blank Rolo-Dex cards.

I took a sheet of each, then went online to search for the template I needed. I found it, then found a design, and printed out a page — on the back. So I learned something about my new printer: it folds the paper over as it’s printing. :o]

So the checks are ready to be sent off. Now all I have to do is get groceries but that will wait until tomorrow, when I know how much I can spend.

OK, so we were looking good to release Saturday on a project that is very late and someone found a major memory leak last night.

GAH!

Oh, and when we do release I’ll be on the midnight to 8 shift on Sunday. So I don’t know which way to root right now.

I could never work that shift, even for one night. I can’t sleep in the day time except for short naps, so I’m a Zombie for at least 36 hours. Sometimes, more.

SO good luck on your shift. I will say some prayers for you.

I’m engulfed in madness on a local level. The ones that are local are trying to figure out the mad ones.

Thanks.

When I was in DC working on a project for Fannie Mae and my family was at home I too a night shift for a while. I can sleep fine if I can make it dark enough.

The difference here is being to work at a normal time on Monday.

In my neck of the woods someone drove a train into a train station.

Fortunately, everyone I know who rides that line is OK.

Mayor de Blasio said he sent 10 ambulances over to help out. With luck they’ll be through the tunnel before dark.

Get this quote from Jr. Emperor Cuomo.

“Governor Andrew Cuomo says commuters who normally connect through the Hoboken terminal should expect major delays into the city.”

See, this is why Democrats think they need to run our lives for us. Because the leaders they chose are all geniuses like this guy.
