Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Yikes! Ready for bidness, I see.
Yes, it definitely reduces stress.
However, tale-bearing is one of the traits I work to eradicate in the Offspring. It doesn't particularly matter whether the tale is accurate: if Vlad tracks down James to tell him, "Frank has your mini-figure!" then Vlad is deliberately fomenting conflict instead of doing something constructive.
Eeew. She needs to double-bag them and tie a firm knot. That’s what I’ve been doing with the rabbit corpses.
I figure if I ignore it, it will die down. Since I know it isn’t true, it doesn’t bother me.
But yes, I agree wholeheartedly with your approach to it. If these people had been reared according to your standards they wouldn’t be doing things like this. But this place is a rumor mill.
And whoever said it is obviously someone who doesn’t know me, or has me confused with someone else. Or both. Either way, I will ignore it and pretend I never heard of it.
They have lowered themselves in everyone’s eye whom they have told. It happens.
She’s from some Asian country. I figure her family must have worked either as “load carriers” with a yoke and heavy baskets, or they worked in rice paddies, because she goes north or south and her feet go east and west.
I’ve told the manager (anonymously) about her, and asked LuDean to tell him as well, since she gets the wind, too. I don’t know if it will do any good. But she may end up finding another place to live.
And yes, “foment conflict” is probably the design of the rumor; which leads me to believe the “people” don’t know me, but are envious of something about me, and want to make me react. Which I’m not going to do.
I mean, what’s the point?
For all I know, people are saying all kinds of things about me, too. This is one reason I’m glad not to be on Facebook!
In other news, today is Bilbo’s Birthday. If the Offspring get some cleanup done in the next hour or so, I’ll get them a Second Breakfast.
I learned when I was a kid that people are going to talk about me because they have nothing better to do. And it doesn’t bother me. Usually, the small, bored minds are the ones who do it. So, meh.
Ballet training?
One would think, yes? ;o]
75 degrees, 65%, SE @ 3 mph partly cloudy. Meh.
I just had a breathing treatment, and will probably have another in about an hour. I had six of them yesterday before I could get the pain under control. No pain today, but upset stomach, so I’m not out of the woods, yet.
It’s hard to believe September is almost over. I looked at the date on my computer and knew there was a birthday, but couldn’t make the connection with Bilbo. Maybe I need a second breakfast.
Too bad I don’t have money for an iHop. A short stack sounds good. Or maybe some just plain regular waffles without a lot of gunk on them or having to have the Belgian kind. I just want plain waffles!
Send them to Charlotte.
It looks like terrorists are doing more damage there than they did in my area over the weekend.
Yes, I think it’s time to call the BLM movement a terrorist organization and go to war.
Heh, that would be funny ... and I agree with you about BLM. Some would also say the same about the Bureau of Land Management, I guess ... but that would be exaggerating.
SJB, so you have relatives in NYC?
I saw a young lady on the subway platform with the SJB logo on her shirt. Made me think of you.
Wouldn’t be exaggerating by much. EPA as well.
Life is too short to worry about what people are saying behind your back. If they don’t know you well enough to talk to you about any problems then they don’t know you well enough for their opinion to count.
Amen to that! It’s funny that after I’ve been here almost 11 years, someone FINALLY decided to talk about me! Hahahaha!
Good point.
Currently sat on top of a hill overlooking Corfe Castle. Isle of purbeck.
The Sun is out and a gentle breeze from the south west is keeping the flies down...
