New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Maybe I’ll get a cantaloupe later. It’s been nearly a week since we had one.

Seafoam? Seafoam? Celadon, I say.

And so the annual selection and naming of colors begins. Annual color palettes are selected to gear up paint, ink, dye lots, pigments for injection molding, etc.

That’s why flipping through catalogues it seems as if you’ve seen it all before, you have.

Okay, celadon ... but some celadon is bluer, which makes it more life seafoam.

So many Shakespeares manqués, which term is fascinatingly close to monkeys. On the other hand, Bob here is actually a published author, though not of stage dramas.

Four things:
1 the cable ties have the serrations on the inside.
2 No mechanical stabilisation of the bundles.
3 The bundles cross over.
4 Awful colour.

Other than that, not a bad installation.
But the colour....ugh.

shoulda, coulda, wouda wannabbes have striking paralllels with monkey imitative behaviors.

Miss my old polyglot philogist friend. Wildly amusing talks about word origins, usage, idiom,! and mutation around the campfire, well oiled with bourbon and cigars. Could stitch puns in four languages in one sentence. Outstanding. RIP Pete.

It is not Fate’s job to actually hit the mark every time. Fate is fatalistic in that way.

I’m sure I’d have liked your friend, too.

*sigh*

Off we go on the day’s alarums and excursions, including Walmart again. Bill the Son wanted the bananas, but I had hid them from him, haha!

I won’t go to Walmart today, or even any time between here and next week. The moths seem to be inhabiting my wallet again. That’s OK. I’m good. For now. So no bananas. And no salad, either. I thought of it yesterday, but I would have had to give up a bottle of wine, and I didn’t want to do that. ;o]

I just thought of something: I’m going to have to start buying tubs and book crates for the move. I figure if I can get two of each every payday, it will help a lot when the time comes. I think I’m also going to buy a dish/glass crate/carton, even though the move is only 120 miles. I don’t want to have to replace anything.

What in the world are you all talking about. We don’t have any pictures of the ocean on the thread (yet).

Back from getting the truck serviced. The car wash is still “broke.” So I will try again Monday. I was very surprised when I came home to find that The Jerk hadn’t taken my spot. !!

That is what we were hoping you could tell us.

Have you checked under the hood to make sure all is back where it should be?
I’ve driven home with the battery leads swinging in the wind before now.

Uh..erm...no. But to keep me from doing that, they vacuumed the floor mats and washed the windows so I would think they are really nice guys. I’d like to tell them I’ll see them next year, but it will be a new bunch of guys in a new JiffyLube. ;o]
