Yay, good job, vieja! I might sort my recorded lectures later today, while Pat shows me Greek flashcards. But first a nap. Later, DP will take the kids to the gym, and I will mop the floors.
And here I thought it was because I reported them to the FTC...
Thanks! I do know enough Spanish to navigate, but not enough to fit in. I got a B+ in the subject, but probably would have gotten an A if my Spanish grammar was better.
Still, I kinda laughed at the guy, because he didn’t know I knew the word!
I went out to sit with the peeps and found that I was “late.” Charlie and Chuck were both there, along with the gal who asked me about “them tubs.” Time goes fast when the folks have a sense of humor!
Another one of my used books came today (I think I paid $4 for it) and I can hardly wait until I finish the one I’m reading now. This one is one my dad had (I wish I had gotten all his church library,) but I have spent years trying to reconstruct it for myself, with as many books as I can remember. It’s been a long, slow process. I have to say, though, that Amazon makes it much easier to find them. And I usually get the cheapest I can find. If it still has all the pages, it qualifies as a book!
I need to vacuum, but I’m debating if I want to do it today or wait until tomorrow. And I have to wash dishes again... *sigh* Oh, for an automatic dish washer...
Many of the cars of that era are quite in-demand, and technology is enabling some great things to breathe new performance into those old engines.
I can take the old carburetor off of that Buick, and replace it with the appropriate product from this company, here:
http://fitechefi.com/products.html
BOOM! The old Skylark now has Electronic Fuel Injection, and a whole different — and programmable — fuel consumption/performance profile.
If the car is straight, clean, running and roadworthy, most of them command a BASE price of $10,000 and some can fetch $25,000 in unrestored “original” condition.
Take a look at this here:

Sorta gives the lie to the new cars being all that ‘n’ a bag of chips.
I’ve told my wife more’n once “I’ll never buy another front-wheel drive.” Transaxle craps out & it’s twice what you pay to get a rear-driver fixed because of the labor just getting the thing out of, and back into, the car.
There is a Little Free Library at the park with the Korean War memorial. Vlad saw a book he wanted, so I told him he could take it, and put in a couple we had in the back of the van.
My first husband and I had a two-door ‘67 Impala, dark blue in color. That was when I could fill that 22 gallon tank for $5!
But when I left him, I left the car, too, and for years, I kicked myself. But I had no job, and he cut off all support for me. He didn’t even want to pay child support, until I wrote a letter to his CO. Came out of his paycheck automatically and boy, was he ever ticked off! Less money to drink and gamble.
(Ugh. Old memories sometimes suck.)
They have some of those in the parks here, but I have no one to go to the park with, so I don’t get to see them. It will be hard enough sorting out which ones to leave behind when I move. I’m losing a bookcase, and will either have to replace it or give away books.
The latter idea is repugnant. I hate giving up books. I love the feel of the pages between my fingers, and the smell of the wood pulp and the faint traces of ink.
I’ve considered getting one for the yard. Maybe someday after we have the tree pruned.
You mean a book kiosk for the front yard? That’s a good idea!
Yes, there’s one at a house in downtown Monroe; we pass it on the way to Missionaries of the Poor. There is another in front of a business in Lake Park. They also have a water fountain for dogs!
I book kiosk with a dog/cat fountain at the base of it or beside it: Brilliant!
And I’m outta here for the night. Ta!
Hope you have a good night! I’m encouraging as many people as possible to go on the gym trip so I can mop the floors in peace.
Tom the Mocker is sitting out on a fence post looking very unhappy. I think he’s molting.
On the continuing saga of Little Red Riding Thing..
The next to last chapter (more than a few chapters skipped since last report..)
I got fed up trying to resurrect Original Little Red Riding Thing from the dead so I broke down and bought a new(er) one. It too is red thus abrogating the need a new naming convention.
I pick it up Tuesday. Or Wednesday. Depending on the availability of Son #1, Son #2, or both to accompany me on a three hour (one way) safari into the wilds of Penn’s Woods..
I’m sorry about the demise of your previous mode of transportation, but I hope you soon learn to love the new one. Perhaps on Wednesday.
Speaking of safari-ing into the wilds of Penn’s Woods, here I sit, surrounded by what’s left of them.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
The nominal six hours of the round trip plus loading time and a probable time out for some sort of foodstuff will have chopped a sizeable chunk out of the day by the time we arrive back at the farm.
Even though the advanced grass substitute will be sorely in need of radical shortening by then, how much I get to try out the new steed and check its appetite for forage is totally dependent upon how much daylight is left upon return. Whichever day it is...
Then, after the tumult and shouting dies and the advanced grass substitute is tamed I will turn attention to Original Red Riding Thing and make a determination as to the deposition of the replacement motor I bought that arrived with shipping damage (due to poor packaging by the seller - the frustration factor of this trauma is why there has been no creatively worded update till now.) In all seriousness it seems the damage is not all that bad and is something I could repair, the worst being the dent in the valve cover which may be concealing damage to the valve rocker arms/push rods/other stuff. (Yes I have documenting photos.) It’s just that I didn’t pay for a motor that I had to futz with, I was expecting to do a quick and dirty unbolt/remove/replace/rebolt/fire up. If I remove the valve cover to inspect for damage I will most likely loose the ability to return for refund. That coupled with the return shipping (FedEx said it weighed 75 pounds) which will entail properly packing it so the seller cannot claim it was damaged due to my negligence..
Now, if the seller wants to placate my irateness by offering a significant refund (i.e. a major percentage of the selling price) I probably can be convinced to keep his motor and futz with it in spare time with the intent to fix it and install on the Original Red Riding Thing, thus attaining the utility of two usable mowing devices.. Or a mowing device and a lawn tractor (you know, remove the deck and use it to pull my little black hauling device..) Or keep the deck on the ‘lawn tractor’ and use it when not towing the little black hauling device to mow the portion of property where the rocks grow fastest seeing as that deck is already compromised and welded twice.
Of course, then I would need a bigger than 10’x10’ Shed-in-a-Box to house all of the power implements which would include Red Riding Things, the little black hauling device, the Olde Deere, and two walk-behind mowing things..
As Rosanne Rosannadanna used to say, ‘It just goes to show you it’s always something..’
Here, they’re kind of spotty and full of spiders. Hope you have a nice weekend.
We don’t have a shed at all. We try to keep it all in the attached garage, along with the somewhat functional RX-7, some somewhat functional bicycles, the back seat of the van, and I don’t know what all that other stuff is and probably wouldn’t notice if someone took it all.
And have you kept your promises? And are you sleepy? I hear you’re still miles from your bunk.. ;-)
I once had the poem memorized but now the random access memory is getting to be more random than accessible. My little horse has run away because I was doing erratic things that he thought were queer. Like stopping by woods on a snowy evening...
But it has been a while since I did that. So maybe I’m better now.
Anywhere around the Reading area? That’s where I need to venture towards with trailer in tow next week..
