New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Oh, no! Not that! Start taking Emergen-C, two or three times a day. Lots of Vitamin C in it to help fight off the cold.

Dat’s what I need. A good nap.

Maybe after this procedure for my wife’s dad is over.

See? That’s what is needed by a couple of FReepers. A sweet little floofy to snooze on your lap.

Hi, Ganag!

The best sleep I’ve had for several weeks (4.5 hours uninterrupted) was interrupted at 0430 by a text message. *sigh*

So I got up and went to Wally’s, then did a little cleaning and sorting in the kitchen and found I had some free space on the microwave cart. Amazing what you can find when you aren’t necessarily looking for it.

(I think the back-up lights on the truck are out, so I will have to have someone check them for me.)

In other news, I have to borrow a large cooler so I can defrost the freezer again. It won’t hold it all, but at least it will hold enough for me to get the thing wiped down inside. I wonder now how I got along without it. :o| It a job I don’t look forward to because of the bending and stooping, but it’s mine and that makes me the mommy.

Today, I want to go see what kind of a dent I can make in the closet shelf in the bedroom, and maybe even the closet itself. All in preparation for the move, of course. I really don’t want to leave anything till the last minute. It’s too hard on me.

There was a day when I could literally pack up a three bedroom house in two days and unpack it in one and the new place would look like we had been settled in for a long time. Ah, yes...the thrill of being a military wife... ;o]

Oh noes! I have to drive his wife to the hospital. Can you let me out for just a few hours?

If the military had wanted me to have a wife they’d have issued me one.

That’s what they’d always told me.

Maybe you could shut your phone off when you go to bed. I leave mine downstairs, but you don’t have a downstairs.

Just back from WW, where I didn’t weigh because I didn’t feel like it. We’ll complete another couple of cleaning things before lunch, and then after lunch I’ll go look at the toilet. I don’t want to get the plumber for another $150!

At some point, I have to pick Elen up at school.

Mr. Grumpy is now hoping he can leave tomorrow. Not much chance depending on how his infection is doing. We’re hoping to convince him to be less stubborn about seeing a doctor so he can avoid the ER.

Sorry, T-c, but I can’t shut my phone off when I go to bed: I’m a mom. The only time I am “unavailable” is when I go to church and that’s only for 90 minutes, max.

*Foosh* I just spent an hour in the bedroom, sorting, stashing, stowing, throwing and manhandling assorted items large and small, and had to bring in a tub from the patio. Since the episode with my neighbor who wanted to know what I “was doin’ with alla them tubs,” I have taken to counting them every few days.

I have a flat tub to bring in and fill with yarn and stuff, but will do that when I start on the closet in here. At any rate, the closet looks neater, and I have managed to free up some space. Yay, ‘Face!

Worked up a sweat on that little project, for sure! My neck is hurting and that can only mean that a storm is trying to come and visit us. *sigh* I’m going to try and ignore the pain, for sure.

I’m sorry about your toilet. Is it the same problem? Either way, that’s just not right.

It was a different thing. Tom fixed it, and then he went to pick Elen up. I’m starting to get suspicious If he gets the lawn mowed before it rains, I’m going to worry about the cops showing up with a felony warrant!

I have a lot to clean up in my bedroom, but it’s never a good time to run the vacuum because of catz. At least I’m going to go through the stuff for Cub Scouts today. Then I have some stuff to type for the Stewardship Committee and some other stuff to type for the choir.

I just came in from outside. It was nice and warm! 103, 7%, SE @ 3...my kinda summer!

(Thanks!)

I still have a couple of things to put away in the bedroom, but for the most part, it is done. I am one more tub closer to moving!

Charlie had gone on the “food bus” so it was just Chuck, LuDean and I. Chuck always tries to do things the hard way, like get insurance on his new-to-him car by going there, rather than doing it online. He’s just too stubborn to change his ways and cut down on the trips he makes in his car.

For some reason, Kim-the-mail-carrier put someone else’s mail in my box today, and that’s not like her. I will talk to her tomorrow. I could have taken the letters to the gal they belonged to, but I don’t think she was home, so I stuck them in the outgoing mail drop.

I think the reverse lights on my truck are out, but I will check them in the morning. I don’t feel like doing it right now.

And in other news...our class reunion is in September of 2017, and I really want to go to it! Hopefully, between now and then, I can save enough for a rental car, since I don’t think the BB SUV will make it up those hills between St George and Payson. It would be even more fun if I could rent a small RV, as it would take care of the room, as well.

That is something to really consider. :o]

With luck, after I eat, I will see about writing more in my personal history. I’ve changed the name of it twice, so maybe this one will stick. *shrug* Who’s going to know unless they read about it?

I had some nap with Jake. Now I’m back to work, and he’s taken over the whole bed.

A felony warrant would be one thing. What would be really bad is a volunteer coordinator for Hillary’s campaign.
