Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Very clever pets!
The dog bottle feeding the goat kid was meant to be a gif...for some reason it didn’t post correctly.
No wonder I keep forgetting, Bob. It’s because I just never knew as much about it! LOL
Somehow, my eyes saw, “We’re all DOMED!”
HI, HK! Glad you’re back on solid ground! (So to speak.)
Oh my gosh! I got cold chills watching that. Thanks! :o])
Well, yeah, but it's just to keep the air in.
It may look like glass, but it's actually Aluminum OxyNitride. Check with Dead Corpse about the production details.
Oh, I LIKE that little black face!
I slept (mostly) until 0455 *yikes* and so, I’m stiff this morning.
And I had some really strange dreams. In one, a house was literally flipped, but when it landed, it landed next to the house I was in and didn’t even shear off a shingle.
The last one, I was with my childhood friend, Bonnie, and we were at a Mexican wedding where there was so much food! As we left, we seemed to be taking a tour of something, and ending up in someone’s house, (they were gone, but the maid was cooking furiously) and I used their bathroom to check my hair, which was red, thick and very beautiful. Not at all like it is, now. (A good omen.)
The house was on stilts at the lake close to where she lives, but the water was very clear. (Another good omen.)
At any rate, I had to get up before I could eat any of the food, darnit.
*crickets*
Less than ten minutes, and you’re proclaiming crickets?
You need more patience, lass.
Good morning. What fun dreams! I’ve taken the people to VBS, and in a few minutes I’ll take Kathleen to her swimming lesson. I don’t think she’s making a lot of progress; I signed her up for next week, too.
Morning, Bob!
I had patience since yesterday, when I logged off, until this morning when I logged back on.
I hate posting to myself, so I proclaimed *crickets.* I mean I DID have the floor (forum) to myself at the time, with no discernable audience...
So. I stand corrected. Thanks Bob, for putting things into perspective for me.
Maybe Kathleen is not making progress because you are there? Some kids do that. But another week won’t hurt her, for sure.
I almost forgot that I’m taking the truck in this morning for service. I will have to take my denim shirt as that place is always freezing inside. And what will I take for amusement? Crosswords! I think I will leave a couple of the smaller mags in the glove department so I always have them. :o]
With any luck, tomorrow, I will feel up to doing the floors. I really need to get this rug cleaned. I think I’ve talked about it since the first of the year. I just haven’t felt up to it and don’t have the money to pay anyone to do it. Still, I want it done, then spray it with Scotch-Gard so if I need to store it when I get to St. George, it won’t take quite so much cleaning.
Could be worse, you could be a cult member. Once upon a time, I was...
Yes.
I am informed by a piece of spam email that today is Bastille Day.
I can think of a re-enactment I’d like to see today on this side of the pond.
I’m going away during Kathleen’s lesson. Anyway, Hannah the lifeguard says she’s making *some* progress.
