Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Awww...squee!!
Laundry day, so I was up and out of bed by 0330. What is WRONG with me?? Will I be as enthused by laundry day when the temps are in the 30’s? *shudder*
I will have to go to Wally’s again, but I’m trying to decide if I want to do that today, after the laundry is done, or tomorrow, when I can go earlier.
Maybe today, as I need stamps.
This is the second documented wheelie. The first was #1240...;o]
Every day is Laundry Day here.
The young persons are just getting underway. We will leave for the gym by 0800, so I can go to yoga class.
LOL!
You’re more awake than I.
For some reason your mention of yoga caused an image of John Belushi in toga chanting, “Yogaah, Yogaah, Yogaah” flashed in my mind.
Wonder if there’s any coffee left? mumble..
That was not a visual one needed. I had an extra half-cup this morning, since nobody else wanted it.
Happy August! That reminds me, I need to call the vet’s office and order more anti-parasite drops.
I wish I had a washer in my apartment. Then I would either be the cleanest person in town or the dirtiest, as I would always be doing laundry!
I will leave in about 20 minutes for the laundry room. How exciting. My life. I need one.
At least you have clothes, a washer, and running water!
Coffee = anti-parasite drops? Wow. I need to drink more of it, just in case.
New month = drops. The cats get their drops at the beginning of the month.
Yes, I could be in a Third World country, but I’m not.
And I don’t have to pay for the repairs to the washers that other people break because they are careless.
But I’m not and I don’t, so I’ll be happy that I don’t have to wash oily dungarees by hand any more.
“Always look on the bright side of life ....”
New book for my list.
Thanks.
Althought the horse was ... wait! You aren’t trying to trick me into disclosing something were you?
Driver screaming, “Bertha! I told you to the rumble seat was off limits. Get in the front seat.”
I actually drove to an auto parts store in Queens yesterday to get a new taillight bulb. Discovered the old bulb wasn’t bad, just the connector needed to be re-connected.
While in there I discovered that the backup light connector was totally disconnected.
Last time I let Jiffy Lube (tm) replace a bulb for me, I guess. If the particular Jiffy Lube weren’t 3.5 hours from here in good traffic I’d go get a refund.
Technically you are paying for washer repairs, just in a few extra pennies each load rather than all at once.
But having had both my own machines and a laundromat I can see the advantages of the latter.
The part I really loved about taking clothes to the landromat was finding enough machines open that I could run all my loads at once instead of sequentially.
Also it gave me a good period of time to read.
It is when Darks makes it...
I don’t correct my sister’s grammar because - well - my sister. It would be much less frightening to be visited by the FBI.
