New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Thought you’d enjoy that along along with the prospect that such a flight is still possible, though be it in Canada.

Was it the missing Lanc in the Tatoo formation?

small? A relative thing, ask any turret ball gunner about small tight quarters with exit on to the ground.

But yes, room only for armaments, after all, one had to stoop and twist only twice during a flight, entering and with blessings from above, leaving on landing.

certainly no cricket pitch....

Haha. It will be eight or nine months before I move, but I’m already antsy to be back in St George! I lived there four years, but had to move here to find work. That was in ‘89.

But I will celebrate with Chick-fil-A when I get there, for sure!

"That’s what I intended when I set my cup on the garden table, turned my back and..."

When you get whitecaps on your coffee cup, you know it's a blustery day.

I heard that we had weather here overnight. I slept through it.

The Lanc from the BBMF had suffered an engine fire and leaking fuel tank.
Rumour has it she is now fixed.
“Lancs forever!”

After all, a Lancaster is for life, not just Christmas. :)

Afternoon, Moosie! How are you this fine day? It’s only going to be 101 F today, with no wind and a 10% chance of rain.

I hope your day is better!

I think I’ll have my first cup of coffee and celebrate that my skin is beginning to have dimples in it where the fat was! *happy dance*

Good Morning to you Face.
Stuck in the Bunker, but otherwise okay, thank you.
Have you visited my thread on Canals? Interesting article. Then chaos. :)

Good idea.

I have a Windows 10 question. I’ve figured out how to make my favorites bar show at the top of my screen on this new browser, but it’s too long because the sites are showing about 20 characters of title. How do I get it to show only 5 characters or so, like it was before I was “helped”?

I’m not sure. Have you started a Favorites file? If you get your pages from there, it should show only truncated URLs.

" Storm in a Tea cup, Modernised."

When your eyes are presumably functioning, but your coffee or tea preparation is not quite ready for consumption, you may study weather behavior in microcosm. Watch the swirling skies at the surface, and observe the currents in action below.

Now multiply these observations by however many powers of ten necessary, and you too can become a world-renowned climate prognosticator.

It’s in a file somewhere, because I could access it from a menu before I figured out how to show it at the top of the screen.

Watched a WWII British movie friday night, "Angels One Five", with Jack Hawkins. About a Hurricane base in Neethy (sp?). They had to borrow the 'canes from the Portuguese for the film.

Oh, those wild RAF flight officers in their off hours!

Interest bit during the Jerry bombing of their command center. Ladies manning the board (well, how else could I phrase that?) were told to don their "battle bells", the dish pan helmets.

By Gad! They were good enough against French armour at Crecy, they're good enough for Jerry.( with some mod mods.)

When you find a site you want, click the star at the upper right, then click yes at the bottom of the box. Once you start your Favorites file, you can access it by clicking the three horizontal lines to the right of the star.

The three dots to the far right will give you a new page, and you can then click your Favorites.

Can’t beat the older war films. Proper Chaps. :)
NB, the vast bulk of Raf pilots where NCOs during the Battle of Britain.
Raf Neethley is fictitious, the filming location was Raf Kenley.

The Waafs did an amazing job in the control rooms throughout the war.
Imagine the stress of seeing the whole battle scape and being unable to do anything to help, except give out calm reassuring radio messages.

Hurricanes are still in short supply, everybody that owns vintage wants a Spitfire. £30k minus engine ,for brand new.
