Fawlty Towers will always be funny.
I have noticed now when they show it, they’ve expunged Major’s rant about “N*ggers” and “Wogs”. And “The Builders” episode really targeted the Irish.

Man, look at her flex those pectorals!!
Always thought she was A+++ at least. She still looks really good.

I think I read somewhere that Chase said he knew what the final scene was going to be pretty much before he even began the series - you can see hints of it seasons before like the philosophical discussion with Bobby while out fishing about what it must be like to die - "ask your friend on the wall".
After I got beyond my initial reaction ("who wants to watch a show about a bunch of lady singers?") I didn't miss one program of the original showing on HBO, and watched the rescreenings on I guess A&E so many times that I could start spouting the dialogue almost word for word when the first scene of each episode popped on the screen....

That explains it. I was serving our country, working 12 hour rotating shifts, mids, swings, and days - four on and three off, with the USAF in Northern California.

I recognized that ‘The Prisoner’ was light years ahead of other TV back in the 70s. It was amazing to watch that show on my little B & W on the AFN while stationed in Germany. How could so many miss its relevance?
Only recently have other programs begun to demonstrate the real potential of the medium.

He was just brilliant. The first time I saw a publicity shot of him smiling widely, I couldn’t believe it was the same person! Terrific actor. I hope he gets a great new role soon.
