Speaking in generalities, I say all of the Maury, Jerry Springer type shows were/are the best comedies the world has ever seen! I ROFL even when I think about them! ;-)

Bonanza....after considering all that have been mentioned here.

It was an All-American show that depicted wholesome values. We need more programs like this today.

James Arness was a hunk.

Since this will be a list based on personal entertainment taste, here goes mine:

M*A*S*H
Magnum P.I.
Buffy, the Vampire Slayer

Please note, I like to be entertained, not preached to, with the exception of M*A*S*H. Current TV offerings are slim pickings at best.

Kind of cheating but Masterpiece Theater. It featured such greats as: I Claudius, Piece of Cake, Upstairs Downstairs, just to name a few.

I love Lucy set the parameters for successful TV comedies that still operate today.

How many shows have the comedic heroine get herself in trouble while the befuddled, dumb, or helpful guy lead serves as the straight man.

Friends is just one show that compresses this formula into several woman/man relationships that work the same territory.

NYPD Blue
H & I Channel is running the entire series, all years. I’m watching it for the second time right now. Terrific show. Have 51 episodes on the DVR right now and I’ve watched probably 10 episodes in the last few days.

I refuse to pick just one. It's like being asked to choose a favorite child.

Variety: Ed Sullivan and Carol Burnett

Talk: Carson, Mike Douglas and Merv Griffin.

Comedy: I Love Lucy and The Mary Tyler Moore Show

Drama: Six Feet Under and Mad Men

Limited Series: Rich Man Poor Man, Brideshead Revisited and The Thorn Birds

Her own special category: Judge Judy.
