Normal pet food formulations have some grains, the rationale being that a cat eating vermin in the wild (rats, mice etc.) would get some from what had been in the digestive system of its prey. And cats can nibble at vegetation. But trial and error may be the necessary thing. When a cat is sick, is not the time to worry about its health for years down the road, if it otherwise won’t eat.

Think larger. God is infinite, and don’t be stingy!

Do you think that God is incapable of handling the workload?

With all due respect, I must agree with Mr. Mojo and Boardwalk.

I think that God is capable of dealing with many things at the same time. After all, He did create everything, which must have been ... well, there are no words.

And He cares about all of His creatures. Exhibit A: Noah's Ark. :)

The tips on chicken or turkey baby food are good, just get the stuff without vegetables added in.

If it hadn’t been for Noah’s Ark there would not have been either a Yaelle, or (pace some old earthers) a Ciel.

Prayers for your kitty.

We had a cat that went through something similar, at around ten years old.

Used a plastic feeding syringe to feed him, Hill’s MD diet food that vet recommended, and mixed with water.

We fed him that way for quite a while till graduated to eating off a spoon, eventually went back to eating normal.

He did end up getting two insulin shots a day, which he didn’t seem to mind, maybe because he got a treat :) after.

He lived another 7 happy years.

We also gave him some liquid vitamin B12 for a while, and always kept Karo syrup on hand, as we did go through a couple seizures it worked to bring him out of it.

Thankfully, we had a great vet with reasonable prices, at the time.

One good thing, I saw their “hospital” and it was just her, alone, in the dark, in a cold metal cage, all night and day except for their employee’s short visits tomorrow. She is used to us being around, to her home, to love. So I do think that it is good she is here with us to love her.

Absolutely! Holding her close, letting her know you love her... that is medicine in itself.

btw, LOVE your tagline. One of the best. :)

Yaelle, my 12 year old Tigtig was very very sick for more than a month, took to vet, did Xray, huge invasive cancer, no cure. Took him home. Just sat with him, carried him around, held him to pee/poop or eat, which he did sometimes. Many days I was sure he was going to depart. I sang to him, sat with him, prayed to God to take care of him.

Amazingly enough, he recuperated and is now his old self. I have no idea what happened, I saw the Xray. Maybe it was something else. Maybe he’ll get the symptoms again, have no idea.

You never know - the love you show your cat if not healing her body, will give her comfort and love can be healing, and if she doesn’t get better, she will be happy knowing you are there with her.

I am so sorry to hear about your kitty. I hope that she is granted a perfect healing. Did she ingest some sort of toxin? That can bring about acute renal failure. Or did the vet say it’s the diabetes? All you can do is keep her hydrated, warm, and try to get food into her. From the sound of it, she should probably be on an IV for nutrition until she can handle food.

Man that sounds like a rip. You could try a different vet too, just to belabor the obvious.

cooking up some white meat turkey. What with the smell of the cooking

Granted, dogs are different.... but when our black Lab runs out of the house (we live in a rural area)... all I have to do is start frying up some hot dogs, whatever meat we have on hand, and keep the door open and she comes running. LOL! :)

Cats are so different from one another, bless their furry hearts and souls.

My two neutered toms will not touch any kind of treat. Not fish. Not turkey. But they will scarf down the dry food of virtually any brand.

No vermin in the home that could have carried it (mice?)

Very interesting thought. Initially I wondered if it was poison from some nasty neighbor, but Ciel is an indoor cat, so... that is possible.

It can happen out of the blue its exactly what happened to my Mom’s friends cat, out of no where, and the Vet gave her no hope and that it would cost too much money to even try but she did it and the kitty Lola is still here, two years later..there is hope will keep your kitty in my prayers. I adore animals, both cats and dogs(I have two pups myself they are my world)

Wendle: TAKE A HIKE. FAR, FAR AWAY. Yours is a shriveled heart and brain.

You insult G-d by inferring that He has limitations on His love and caring and must parcel it out to the most deserving? What blasphemy!

You insult every human with a heart who loves their cherished pet. Many FReepers have cherished pets that they adore. When their pet suffers, they suffer right along with it. Been there myself, know how agonizing it feels to watch your pet suffer from an illness and feel helpless to alleviate its suffering. I have tears in my eyes right now, putting myself where Yaelle and her kitty must be right now.

I pick up our two kitties everyday and tell how much I love them and thank them for being such wonderful companions. We are packing for a four day camping trip and they crawl in the suitcase. We assure them they will be well taken care of until we return. Talk to Ciel and tell her how much you love her. I’ll pray for your kitty.

The two I have now are the same, the first cats I’ve ever had who have never clamored for bites of our dinner - chicken, shrimp, etc. I even had a cat who was crazy for potato chips. All these really want is the dry stuff and dry cat treats.

I did find that a microwave just wasn’t the thing, unless it still did not have the tubing on it. If just a bag, the microwave will work — keep jiggling it every few seconds and feeling it. Once the tubing is installed, the microwave will rapidly cause the fluid in the thin tubing to boil and the plastic to melt, ruining the tubing. In the fridge the fluid bag with tubing was stored (I kept it in an empty crisper tray) and then to the heating pad it went a couple hours before use.
