I wake up this am and see lots of nonsense about some kid stepping on a "home made explosive" in Central Park.
Gee, if that is the case, then Iraq must be FILLED with those.
Come on. Someone made an IED...an Improvised Explosive Device.
Will ANYONE in the media call the PC police out on this?
In all fairness, “IED” is a military expression, not a police one. The term comes from the British Army in the 1970s, who coined it while fighting the Provisional IRA.
It is important to call domestic bombs something *other* than IEDs, for the simple reason that the expression is being used to justify military involvement in domestic policing.
(2012) “Warning about the “growing threat” of IEDs across the United States, several congressmen and the Pentagon are pushing for Congress to relax the Posse Comitatus Act, which substantially limit the powers of the federal government to use the military for law enforcement unless under precise and extreme circumstances.
“House Committee on Homeland Security leaders Reps. Peter King, R-N.Y., Daniel Lungren, R-Calif., and Michael McCaul, R-Austin are leading an effort to amend the Posse Comitatus Act in order to allow the Pentagon to coordinate with local law enforcement bodies.”
Titanic:
Rare buoyancy anomaly.
Where’s the “like” button?
Okay, the young man stepped on an OME. The OME took his foot off. I am wondering if there are other OME in the park? An OME repeated often enough becomes an IED.
Hurricane Katrina: Water Drainage Issue
Boston Marathon Bombing: rice cooker malfunction
Good. IED is a sanitized phrase. They should actually use the word “explosive” straight through no initials every time. Stop using soft language, keep the active words.
This Park Place Violence was just an isolated incident.
Move along.
If this thing was in some rocks as reported that means it was aimed at kids.
Our government is so insanely corrupt.
Obama calls for tighter firework control. Wnats to close gun show loopholes.
Did they get the manufacture code and serial number from the firework? What about the firecracker blackbox?
I’m wondering if they are home made at all.
The statements about small size, makes me think the explosive was a detonator. Some use HE and are capable of this kind of damage.
This is the definition of Land Mine from Wikipedia:
“A land mine is an explosive device concealed under or on the ground and designed to destroy or disable enemy targets, ranging from combatants to vehicles”
This is the definition of “Explosive” from Wikipedia:
“An explosive material, also called an explosive, is a reactive substance that contains a great amount of potential energy that can produce an explosion if released suddenly, usually accompanied by the production of light, heat, sound, and pressure.”
Seems to me that a Land Mine is MUCH CLOSER to the truth here. Most people that I know who play with firecrackers don’t manufacture land mines - and certainly not ones that are this effective, where it is designed like it came RIGHT OUT OF IRAQ with enough of a punch to maim, but not kill, a person, thereby tying up his unit with rescue efforts.
Islamic connotations are forbidden in a PC world.
Get serious. It was just moozlums being moozlums. Drop the pretense. They want to murder you and your children.
Exactly.
No shrapnel? fogitabutit.
Call it everything but what it really is.
