Game of Thrones Finale (Vanity - chime in)

The opening scenes of the show depict Cerci getting ready for her trial before the seven septons. Now we knew that she would never stand trial didn't we? Well, we weren't disappointed. (I wasn't at least)

Loras confessed to everything. The deal was that he would be released after Cersi's trial, but Margaery didn't know that he would have the star carved into his forehead.

Meanwhile, Pycelle gets lured off and meets his end at the hand of the children while Qyburn looks on. Pycelle was a go along get along guy. He should have kept his mouth shut, but he stepped in it by criticizing Gregor Clegane, and by his inability to suppress his dislike of Cersi. Bye bye.

Because Cersi and Tommen weren't in attendance, and the High Sparrow sent Lancel Lannister to fetch them. Lancel saw a suspicious child and followed him. While this is happening, Clegane is forcibly preventing Tommen from leaving for the trial. Margaery understands that something is wrong, deadly wrong, because Cersi and Tommen aren't there. She tries to get the High Sparrow to evacuate the Sept, but the old jerk is so full of his own righteousness and religious authority that he can't conceive of the scope of treachery that Cersi is capable of. Lancel follows the child undergroud and gets stabbed. He sees the light of candles and crawls towards them. To his horror, the candles are burning down and are about to touch off barrels upon barrels of wildfire, stored conveniently below the Sept of Baelor, where the trial is being held. Too late though, as the fire ignites, disintegrating him, and blowing up the whole Sept. AWESOME! (Lancel's religious journey toward the light ended in a very BRIGHT flash!)

Poor naive Tommen commits suicide. In this I was sympathetic. He loved Margaery. He was a young boy who fell in love with a beautiful girl. And he knew that she was suddenly gone forever. The grief he felt was overpowering.

I liked Margaery, and I know she wasn't perfect either as she did her share of scheming and plotting. Too bad she couldn't get out of the Sept. Her dad was an affable old duff, but not too smart. Loras - who cares. The High Sept - ADIOS MOFO! I thought of him as a disgusting, icky old creep, something like Pycelle.

One reviewer I read noted that later, when Cersi takes the throne, that there were a LOT of new faces since the former elites went up with the Sept.

Littlefinger tried to baffle Sansa by declaring he wants to sit on the Iron Throne with her by his side, but by now she has wised up considerably, and she shut him down. Stupidly, he steps in it again by telling her that the North would back her, but not Jon. At the meeting, the North backs Jon, with the help of a rousing speech by little Lady Mormont, and Littlefinger looks like the loser he is. Sansa gives him a death stare. Littlefinger, the definition of slime and ooze.

So we have Walder Frey all happy and blustery at getting Riverrun back. He's happy with his alliance with the Lannisters, and boasts that when they put their swords through the hearts of their enemies, "The Freys and Lannisters send their regards."

Jaime pours a little cold water on Frey's happiness by reminding him that he couldn't hold Riverrun, and that if the Lannisters have to keep bailing him out, then who needs him?

And Arya. Love her. She serves Walder Frey a meat pie which contains he two sons. As he begins to grasp the horror, she unmasks herself and tells him who she is, and that the last thing he will see is a Stark smiling down on him as he dies. Frey is speechless. Literally, because Arya cut his throat the way her mother's throat was cut.

And speaking of last things someone sees, Cersi had promised Septa Unella that the last thing she would see before she dies is her face. Unella is under the impression that she is going to meet her god. Cersi explains her that it won't be today, or tomorrow, and introduces her to Gregor Clegane. Cersi mocks Unella with "confess," and "shame." As she leaves Unella is screaming, and we have to use our imaginations as to what exactly Clegane is doing.

Davos outs the witch's past atrocity of burning the daughter of Stannis alive. Jon banishes her and promises to hang her if she returns, and Davos tells her he will kill her himself if she returns.

Varys appears to help forge an alliance between Olenna Tyrell and Ellaria Sand. It was fun watching Olenna smack down the Sand girls. She told one that she looked like an angry little boy, she told one to shut up, and told the third not to speak.

Daenerys basically told Daario adios. Tyrion tells Daenerys he believes in her and said he would pledge his sword, but he doesn't have one. But he pledges his counsel, now and always. She appoints Tyrion as "Hand of the Queen." He kneels. I give Daenerys credit for understanding his value.

At the end, the fleet of Daenerys is sailing with its troops and horses. Yara and Theon are sailing with Daenerys after having pledged their support with the understanding that Daenerys will support them in defeating their treacherous uncle Euron. As the fleet sails, the dragons fly combat air patrol overhead. Must wait until next year now.

Yeah, the season finale was fun. One scene worth mentioning was that in the prior week, the Masters told Daenerys that her reign was over. She begged to differ as her dragons commenced to torch the Master's fleet. Greyworm gave the Master's escort of soldiers a choice. Stay and fight and die for Masters who would never do the same for them (like Ramsay Bolton) or go home to their families. Exit the soldiers! LOL!

And then Tyrion tells the three masters that one of them must die for their treachery. Two of them choose one, who gets on his knees to beg for mercy. Greyworm approaches, and kills the two who were standing. Ok, so two died instead of one. Close enough.

Great episode! tons of surprises.

I was honestly expecting Cersi to stand trial and to actually confess her love for her brother and TELL THE TRUTH about the who’s son Tommen actually is!

Which would have revealed her son was not a Baratheon and thus not entitled to the throne. Blowing up the Sept with nearly all the nobles in it along with the Sparrows I never saw coming. The Sparrows alone I could have seen, but all the nobles that backed her future claim to the throne also? I think she will regret that in the end.

Cool stuff to come... remember the new Iron Island king has a horn that can control dragons and is in the process to building the largest fleet the world has ever seen. This should make next season interesting.

My predictions:

in the end Tyrion will end up happlily married to Sansa and be both hand of the kind and Lord of Winterfell.

Jamie will be the one to kill Cersi

John Snow will marry Daenerys.

Together John and Daenerys will defeat the white walkers.

Needs editing. Grrrrr.

Great show. Now we have confirmation that Jon Snow is Ice & Fire, Targaryen and Stark. I hate Cersei but loved her revenge...except for the death of Margaery. I was so sick of Tommen’s weakness that I laughed when he dove from the window. Little Finger is going to have to be dealt with soon as he now poses a huge threat to Jon’s safety.

I can’t wait to see how all of the new revelations play out in the next season.

To be honest, I wasn't completely sure Cersi was not going to stand trial. But her nature is to fight and undermine, and she did it with a vengeance. And I didn't see the blowing up of the Sept coming.

I had forgotten that the Iron Island King has a horn that can control dragons. Thanks for the reminder.

"In the end Tyrion will end up happily married to Sansa and be both hand of the king and Lord of Winterfell."

I would like that.

"Jamie will be the one to kill Cersi"

He might. But there are any number of people left who might deal with her. Arya for example.

"John Snow will marry Daenerys."

I would like that too. But I kind of lean to Jon staying in Winterfell. But who knows?

"Together John and Daenerys will defeat the white walkers."

It HAS to be that way. I can't wait!

The major point of the episode that was left out of your synopsis bears noting. Bran, now the Three Eyed Raven, goes back to the Tower of Joy where a young Eddard Stark finds his sister Lyanna close to death.

She whispers something to him that the audience doesn’t hear, and then “Robert would kill him”. Ned is handed a bundled baby as his sister begs him to protect and raise the infant. The camera does a tight shot of the infant’s face and then opens up on the face of...JON SNOW! Ba Da BOOM! Does Jon trace his Stark bloodline to the maternal side, leaving the obvious conclusion that none other than Rhaegar Targaryen is the babe’s father? Can we say, Aunt Dany? Why, yes, we can!

Poor Cersei, you better enjoy sitting on that uncomfortable chair while you can.

"Great show. Now we have confirmation that Jon Snow is Ice & Fire, Targaryen and Stark."

We were always a little suspicious about the truthfulness of his birth, now we know. About time!

Littlefinger has played the Game of Thrones very well, but time and circumstance have undercut him. His plans have come up drastically short. The slimy weasel got dissed big time by Sansa. He is seething! I agree that he is a possible future threat to Jon Snow. If he is, I think Sansa will act decisively. She is capable of it now. She started to turn away when the dogs started chomping of Ramsay's face, but she turned back and forced herself to watch. As she walked away, she was smiling. She's toughened up a LOT!

It was strange how Varys was in Dorne w/ Olenna and the SandSnakes, but then somehow managed to be back on a boat as Daeny’s fleet sailed towards.

Also, the promotion of female leadership by HBO seems a bit over the top ... perhaps timed for the upcoming election?
- SandSnakes, after stabbing their prince, declare that a weak MAN will never rule them again.
- Daenarys and Yara make statements about how their fathers were evil men and how its time for women to lead
- Weak leadership by all of the Stark vassals except for they young Mormont princess, who gives all of those weak men a well deserved tongue lashing.

The prophecy says that Cersei will be killed by a younger brother ... could be Tyrion, could be Jaime (who was born after Cersei) ... could be Sandor Clegane.

I don’t understand why so many people leave out the most important revelation long term to the story... The parentage of John Snow.

The either minimize it or like this vanity ignore it completely.

Long term this is the single most important revelation to the story and people get so tied up in the cgi and backstabbing the miss the big things.

Good recap, except I wouldn’t say Sansa gives LF a death stare when Jon is proclaimed King of the North. It seemed to me more like she was smiling and happy at Jon’s ascent, but then she looked at LF and a worried, almost frightened look came over her face because she knows how dangerous LF is, especially now that he’s been thwarted in his plans for the North.

The writing is on the wall. Without any prophecy it’s obvious that Cersei will kill Jamie or Jamie will kill Cercei. (Or they die together at the hand of another).

The most likely being Jamie kills Cersei, as he recognizes the woman he loves is absolutely insane and evil. They may love each other, but her actions killed far mor than just their enemies and cost them their final child as well. My guess would be when the city is about to fall to its enemies Cersei will want to blow the whole thing up with wildfire and Jamie will kill her just as he did the mad King.

I was waiting for someone else to point out that trend in GOT. It is advancing a girl power theme.

"It was strange how Varys was in Dorne w/ Olenna and the SandSnakes, but then somehow managed to be back on a boat as Daeny’s fleet sailed towards."

Yeah, that is kind of jarring. Maybe Daenerys had a dragon pick him up and transport him to the fleet.

"Weak leadership by all of the Stark vassals except for they young Mormont princess, who gives all of those weak men a well deserved tongue lashing."

That hasn't been lost on me either. Jon Snow is not stupid tactically. Yet in the battle, he and his army would have been wiped out but for the timely entrance of the troops of the Vale, with Sansa and Littlefinger at the head. I like little Lady Mormont. Though she scolded the men who didn't back Jon, and while the women seem to be forming leadership which is going to bring peace and harmony, in reality it is still the men who do the bulk of the fighting and dying. I'm not saying that the females are not capable of personally engaging in the fighting, but they are generally not very effective. It's the men who are going to get the job done. And remember that though Daenerys was willing to burn the cities of the Masters to the ground, it was Tyrion who counseled her to consider a better option. She too has a genocidal tendency if not counseled out of it.

(I still smile when I think of her meeting with the Khals at the temple.)

Theory: Jamie died at Arya’s hands at the Twins, along with old man Frey. It is Arya in Jamie’s face awaiting to kill Cercei.

Then I would agree that it is a good possibility that Jaime will be the one. He knows what she did to the Sept, and he killed the King who was going to the same to the whole city. Cersi has that insanity in her, and Jaime might have to be a “Kingslayer” (Queenslayer) again.

Add to this revelation, the fact that the Targaryen banner contains a three headed dragon. Ok, there’s Dany, obviously, now Jon (so is his actual surname, “Fire, or Flame”?).

A few episodes back, Tyrion unleashed the two imprisoned dragons. He had to get very close to do this, at one point begging the beast, “please don’t eat me”. Neither dragon put a mark on him. Tywin suspected Tyrion was not his son. This begs the question, is Tyrion the son of a Targaryen, instead of Tywin Lannister’s child?

Possibilities, possibilities.

You could be right about the stare. She clearly understands his lust for power, and she understands the lengths he will go to in order to obtain what he wants. His time grows short, and he will slip up and be dispatched.
