Apparently, this has been known long before now.
My old high school shop teacher used this fact way back in l964 or thereabouts, to illustrate the "measure twice, cut once" thingy.
He related that when he went to college (Georgia Tech, as I recall) it was a known and discussed fact that the measurements were just a wee bit off.
Actually, he initially was discussing the concrete footings for one of the NYC bridges, in that quite a few mistakes were made by the guys that built the wooden forms.
I suspect that if one were do extensive research, one would find quite a few of the iconic structures we all know of were measured wrong somewhere or somehow.

Because the pyramid was originally covered in angled casing stones, providing a smooth exterior surface, the original base dimensions were slightly larger than whats observable today. (info from the article) Apparently, originally and for thousands of years, it looked like this (before the other pyramids were built):

Come on, people, it's a government project. We're lucky it doesn't have five sides.
Geesh.

This means that, at most, the west side was only 5.55 inches (14.1 centimeters) longer than the east side. Though that would leave the pyramid not quite square, it's a remarkable level of precision for a monument constructed more than 4,500 years ago, the researchers noted. "The data show that the Egyptians possessed quite remarkable skills for their time," Dash wrote in the report. "We can only speculate as to how the Egyptians could have laid out these lines with such precision using only the tools they had." [

"ISIS will tear it down." The pyramids were used by the arabs as quarries to build Cairo.

Maybe they didn’t want a perfect pyramid.
