Given the rumors that are flying around about 'changing the rules' at the GOP convention so as to prevent Donald Trump from being the Republican nominee, I think some thought should be given to the potential collateral damage to the Republican Party's efforts in November.
First, I'll state the obvious - if Trump is denied his position on the ballot in 2016, I simply will not vote for president - and I suspect that holds for many, probably a majority of Trump supporters.
So Romney, Ryan, or whoever replaces him will simply have to find another pool of millions of voters to push them over the top, and I'll give them a hit - IT DOESN'T EXIST. The only pool of voters they'll find is the 10,000 or so GOP insiders that can't stand Trump crashing their little conclave. The millions of us that took the time and made the effort to go out and vote, we'll simply will NOT VOTE for this new candidate.
Now I assume the above is already obvious to the GOP Leaders, so it's time to add a bit more to the mix. Do not, for a minute, think that us Trump voters have some great love for the GOP. WE DO NOT. We've been asking for a candidate to secure our borders (and that includes terrorist immigration) for over a decade, and all we get are Open Borders types and back-room scheming to try to get Amnesty through - the same Amnesty that is even opposed by a (albeit slim) majority of Democrats. The only people 'extreme' on this issue are the ones (in both parties) that will not let go of this push.
So here's what happens if we do not see Trump on the ticket - you Republican SENATORS, CONGRESSMEN, and CANDIDATES are going down with him. We will not vote for a party that denies its own voters their choice of a candidate...THAT SIMPLE.
So you guys, if you want, can continue your scheming to try to figure out a way to keep Trump off the November ballot - but if you do, be prepared to LOSE YOUR SEATS too, and watch the GOP end up with as much power nationally as it now has in California...a fate deserving of them if they try this stunt.
And you cannot say you weren't warned, for this is YOUR WARNING.
If Trump is forced out by the GOPe—He should start a new party and run in four years. Andy Jackson was cheated like this—took time to rebuild and reorganize his party, ran and won in four years. Liberty Party to replace the GOP. After one term of Hillary, the people may well crown Trump king to get rid of the Progressive cabal and her crooked ways.
Forget Romney and Ryan, they’re obvious. Someone on our side needs to take the names of the individual delegate traitors at the local level who are plotting to dump Trump and broadcast those names into every American household. They are flirting with political extinction. No question about it.
I agree with you. I’m going to call all my Republican elected officials to let them know. Either they publicly, and enthusiastically, support Trump now, before the convention, or I will vote for their opposition.
Count me in.
The GOP needed to be replaced after the 2012 debacle.
Trump is the best thing to happen to the GOP since Reagan, and they still want to screw things up.
Not only that, but I will campaign against whomever they put in. You want war? You’ll get war.
There do seem to be a number of Washington insiders who would sacrifice their party rather than admit an outsider to their little club.
If trump loses the supreme court won’t matter. Hold onto both houses of congress for what? What have both houses of congress done to stop Obama? Rip off the band aid and let it go if hillary wins. Republican establishment is toughe on trump than hillary. They are crooked just like her.
