Given the rumors that are flying around about 'changing the rules' at the GOP convention so as to prevent Donald Trump from being the Republican nominee, I think some thought should be given to the potential collateral damage to the Republican Party's efforts in November.
First, I'll state the obvious - if Trump is denied his position on the ballot in 2016, I simply will not vote for president - and I suspect that holds for many, probably a majority of Trump supporters.
So Romney, Ryan, or whoever replaces him will simply have to find another pool of millions of voters to push them over the top, and I'll give them a hit - IT DOESN'T EXIST. The only pool of voters they'll find is the 10,000 or so GOP insiders that can't stand Trump crashing their little conclave. The millions of us that took the time and made the effort to go out and vote, we'll simply will NOT VOTE for this new candidate.
Now I assume the above is already obvious to the GOP Leaders, so it's time to add a bit more to the mix. Do not, for a minute, think that us Trump voters have some great love for the GOP. WE DO NOT. We've been asking for a candidate to secure our borders (and that includes terrorist immigration) for over a decade, and all we get are Open Borders types and back-room scheming to try to get Amnesty through - the same Amnesty that is even opposed by a (albeit slim) majority of Democrats. The only people 'extreme' on this issue are the ones (in both parties) that will not let go of this push.
So here's what happens if we do not see Trump on the ticket - you Republican SENATORS, CONGRESSMEN, and CANDIDATES are going down with him. We will not vote for a party that denies its own voters their choice of a candidate...THAT SIMPLE.
So you guys, if you want, can continue your scheming to try to figure out a way to keep Trump off the November ballot - but if you do, be prepared to LOSE YOUR SEATS too, and watch the GOP end up with as much power nationally as it now has in California...a fate deserving of them if they try this stunt.
And you cannot say you weren't warned, for this is YOUR WARNING.
Dude send a message write in Trump, how can you not see that?????hummmmm!mm
I’m all in favor of dumping all of them - starting with Paul Ryan.
I voted for Ted Cruz’s opponent in the general election and I’m willing to do it again for any other Republican that is not behind Trump at election time. One thing is for damn sure I’ll write in if Trump isn’t the candidate. I’d sooner vote for Satan over Hellary......no difference in those 2.
That depends.
If Trump has a serious heart attack or stroke and cannot run, he should be replaced (and he should suggest it). Otherwise, the convention should be held under rules comparable to the past 20 conventions - Trump earned the nomination. Republicans are not supposed to be democrats; the GOP should follow the expected rules.
I think they’re willing to throw the match to H hoping for short term memories with everything going back to normal in 2 & 4 years.
The key here too is to let them know that the sanctions will be indefinite not just this election.
I can not believe that these folks are so willing to sacrifice so much including the ability to nominate future Supreme Court Justices.
What bothers me the most is the fact that they can not support the peoples choice within the party. I like the new name RATS.
But, but, obviously you do not think that firing the voters is a good idea.
They’re fine with that.
I am voting for Trump if I have to write his name in! I’m not voting down ticket. Good luck incumbents.
The Reagan who signed the last legal amnesty and gave us the original bait and switch on closing tbe borders. The same consetvative that put the good, the bad and the ugly on the Supreme Couet. Lol
The fact of the matter is that Rebuplicans are 50/50 with their supreme court nominees and at this point the rats are 100% at placing anticontitutionalists on the court. We lose no matter what with business as usual. Trunp is Americas last hope at postponing the inevitable for another generation.
I will do so much worse. I will vote for Hillary in the hope that she will precipitate CWII.
Yeah I agree. The party will blow up in November if they steal it away from Trump. I think it’s more noise than bite. Chihuahua barking.
No Trump on ticket, I don’t vote for any congressional candidate ever again. I only vote in local elections. They can go f&%$ themselves.
Its too bad we cant dump a few senators and reps at the convention. That is a rule i would definitley support!
Personally, I think this nonsense about kicking Trump out at the convention is just BS enemedia pot-stirring. A good example is the WaPo article of 30 (count ‘em, 30) delegates of a total of 2,472 who were trying to start a “revolt”. Pretty damn small revolt if you ask me.
But yeah, if they DID kick Trump out, it would indeed the permanent end of the GOP as a viable party. I THINK a few GOP leaders must understand that, either that or they are WAY stupider than any of us realize.
But yeah, I’m with you if something like this were to actually happen. My personal protest would be to write in Trump for EVERY office.
Politicians like Paul Ryan are truly weapons-grade stupid playing the #nevertrump game. The only reason the media is fawning over them at the moment is they are a convenient tool with which Hillary’s obedient press Corp can bludgeon Trump.
When this election is over either Trump wins or not. If he wins, Mr. Ryan, he’s going to remember where you stood. If he loses, we’re going to remember where you stood.
I will do so much worse. I will vote for Hillary in the hope that she will precipitate CWII.
More likely with her interventionist policy and her past history, she triggers WW3. (I prefer conventional numbering of WWs from here on out. Otherwise it gets awkward in the future with WWVI or WWXLIV and so forth.)
I will become a banana peel dropper. And claim responsibility in a fashion where a ridiculous number of public servants are tied down looking for a lone heathen. ;) Thanks for the tutorial, Apache Nation.
I will vote straight 'Rat on each and every ticket, all the way down to dog catcher, simply to deny them office, world without end, amen.
Mark Kirk is my GOP Senator. I have called his office and told them I will not be voting for him due to his stance on Trump!
Not sure of Congresscritter’s stance~probably should call and check into that.
