Florida has a gator problem as I’ve seen with my own kids’ near misses
Washington Post ^ | June 16, 2016 | Darlena Cunha

Florida has a gator problem. The animals live and walk among us, close to us. They live in our lakes and reservoirs and swamps, and we set up our businesses and parks around them, as if nothing will ever happen.

That is odd. I can’t imagine wanting to visit a country unless I knew something about it, which would include culture, customs, language, accomodations, areas to avoid, political climate and so on. The world can be a dangerous place and anyone who doesn’t realize that may well regret it.

Lake Alice on the campus of UF does not have a swimming area anywhere. We used to go every Sunday to a spot on the lake and drink beer, listen to music and watch the gators swim by. No problems. Until UPD showed up.

We were there for one day. We much preferred Busch Gardens. Now when we visit Florida, we spend our time on the beach, with family, sightseeing or finding good restaurants. Florida is beautiful and we love it.

On private property with landowner permission, wild pigs may be trapped and hunted year round using any legal to own rifle, shotgun, crossbow, bow or pistol. There is no size or bag limit, and you may harvest either sex. Also, no hunting license is required. A gun and light at night permit is not required to take wild hogs with a gun and light on private lands with landowner permission.

That’s a very good way to keep them under control, although it may not eradicate them completely.

We lived in Lakeland in 69. There was a lake in the center of town with a “resident gator.” Blinkie IIRC. One day the alligator killed a large German Shepherd while the woman and her son watched in horror as their dog let out several loud wells and went silent. They were on the sidewalk watching their dog pee on the grass.

The city council voted to not take any action since the dog owner was clearly to blame and not the gator which had slithered up out of the lake.

Wrong girl. I believe that is Lauren Bacall from the sequel movie “Gator”. Shaky Pudding was Jennifer Billingsley in “White Lightning”. White Lightning was probably the most under rated movie in the history of film. Watch it today, and it still holds up over time. If I was working for a studio, White Lightning, would be my first choice for a remake. Picture Timothy Oliphant as Gator and Walton Goggins as Rebel Roy. The one problem is that no one, I mean no one, can do justice to Sheriff Connors like Ned Beatty. By the way, the sequel Gator, stunk.

Good one.

Well maybe HIGH fences with barbed wire and electricity that won’t work because Newman’s in charge. :)

Yeah, and they also want to put Newman in charge of the computer-controlled electric fences, so that won’t work.

The gators claimed FL way before humans.

Humans have now claimed FL as their home, it's time to get rid of the gators. As in every war, to the winners go the spoils...........

#gatorsgottago......

Think they should put up some “Gator Free Zone” signs with the little Gator with the red circle and a slash...

Hey it is 100% effective with Guns ... hell they could put a Gun Free Zone sign right next to it ... be the safest place on the planet

jus sayin
