HOUSTON, Texas – Texas based Academy Sports and Outdoors has pulled “modern sporting rifles” from the shelves of its more than 200 stores in response to the Islamic terrorist attack in Orlando. The company, headquartered in Houston, is also reported to start requiring personal information from buyers of large quantities of ammunition.

The move was said to be out of respect for those who were killed and injured in the Islamic terrorist attack in Orlando where the shooter used an AR-15 style rifle to carry out the attack.

The move was said to be out of respect for those who were killed and injured in the Islamic terrorist attack in Orlando where the shooter used an AR-15 style rifle to carry out the attack.

A search of the company’s online store by Breitbart Texas revealed the semi-automatic .223 caliber rifles were no longer listed.

The sporting goods retailer is taking other steps as well by removing items that look like the rifles. A store employee told the blogsite that they were told to remove “sporting rifle lighters and other gifts.” Additionally, airsoft and BB guns that look like the AR-15 style rifles will also be pulled from the stores.

Breitbart Texas reached out to the company via email for a response to these reports. No reply was immediately available.

...Last time I was in a Wal*Mart, a couple months ago, they had Stoner pattern rifles in their gun case...

Cowards. I don't know why anyone, unless they are desperate, would buy ammo or firearms from Academy anyway. Way over priced! I sure wouldn't buy in bulk.

If you do buy there, compare Wal-Mart ammo prices first...you will see the difference.

Second that... not willing to step foot in an Academy if this is the policy. Are you listening Cabela’s? Gander Mountain?

Is this only in Houston? There are thousands of resettled refugees there. If not more

"...If I’m going to buy from a dealer I prefer the smaller, mom and pop, gun stores to the big sports outlets like Gander Mountain, Cabelas, etc...."

Was seeking to purchase a red dot scope (prior to it being lost in the boating accident) years ago. I specifically sought an Aimpoint device. Was at a Cabela's and they got their "optics guru" who said he was in the firearms optics business for more than twenty years. He said he "had never heard of this Aimpoint company" that I had requested!

Unreal. You work at Cabela's. You are in the firearms section. You specialize in optics...yet have miraculously never heard of the company "Aimpoint" in the course of your career? That visit convinced me they know FAR LESS than they let on about products. I have always been inclined to stick with a smaller and more specialized retailer, yet that was icing on the cake.

I think it is in all their stores. There’s also lots of refugees in Dallas, Amarillo, San Antonio. But that’s not their reason. It’s to protect snowflakes.

A former “greeter” at one of their stores told us they do a lucrative job with illegal aliens. If they are so “respectful” of some, why aren’t they equally respectful of citizen? First clue is when their customers don’t speak a single word of English.

And I believe Aimpoint is the largest seller of red dot optics in the world, isn’t it? Imagine if you’d brought up one of those obscure optics companies like Leuopold, Vortex or Nikon.

Academy has a lot of suburban locations. This has snowflake corportism written all over it. I’m sure all it took was one call from a “gun violence” group to Academy corporate HQ to cause them to fill their pants.

What's their email address?

My wife and I are going to buy some sporting clothing-- I want to let them know I won't be shopping there.

"I went to Sports Auth years back in Ct to buy amo. They wanted my DRV license.I walked out never went back and would do the same at this place"

My BIL from their tells me it is such a socialist kibbutz that you need an ammo license, just like the People Socialist Republik of Taxachuetts had in the 80's. That is their version of Amerika...
