Chinese factories, are making the originals, and also the fakes. According to the article.
First I had heard that.
This will not end well.
People who buy counterfeit luxury goods disgust me.
I don’t know who Jack Ma is, but I do know people have been killed by defective Chinese car parts.
If the same factories are making the fakes, as the originals, why are they of higher quality?
While the Chinese are busy trying to fake each other out it is us that really got faked out.
First, if they are the exact same factories and exact same materials, why is the knockoff of ‘higher quality’ than the original? Is the ‘original’ actually “seconds” presented as ‘original’ quality? And second, how competitive is that price minus the heavy subsidy the Chinese govt gives their manufacturers of knockoffs, a subsidy that isn’t passed on in savings or discount to the Brand buyer of the ‘original’ product?
I used to sell high end goods on eBay. Accessories. Jewelry, handbags, etc. I knew this. There are ways of telling the fakes from the real ones since the quality control is not there but sometimes they’re subtle.
That’s why half the stuff on eBay now is fake.
He’s exactly right. Many of the companies hired by designers ‘moonlight’, take the patterns of designs, and use cheaper fabrics.
My words to Jack Ma would end up being the localized equivalent of “citation needed”.
When the companies that make the Originals go out of business what will you Copy ?
I’ve heard this for decades.
Two shifts for the original orders and the third shift making knock offs.
It’s called “Midnight Manufacturing”.
The "store brand" groceries have been this way forever. Look at when there is a recall. "Del Monte" and 20 different "Albertson's Best", or some similar such thing.
Fakes as good?
Uh... that hasn’t been my experience.
When you can sell a $20 handbag for $400 just because of the label, it’s a surprise that people game the system?
If ya Rent it and don’t buy it it might be a Good Thing.
The poor guys that are married to the High Maintenance Real McCoy are the real losers. They pay Retail.

It’s not about quality. It’s about status. A $1 watch from Dollar Tree will tell time just as well as a $30,000 Rolex.
