BIG ONE COMING? Scientists say 9.3 magnitude California quake possible [Mathhew 24]

Emergency services are already preparing for how to deal with a terrible off-shore earthquake in the Cascadia Subduction Zone, off the west coast of America near California. They were just completing their four-day major emergency test run when a 5.2 magnitude quake hit Borrego Springs, San Diego County, in California on Friday. The mid-sized earthquake caused more than 200 aftershocks – some more than three on the richter scale - and could be felt from Santa Barbara to the Mexican border. Egill Hauksson, a research professor of geophysics at Caltech, said of the 5.2 quake: "It was the biggest one for a while."

A 3.1 magnitude quake followed yesterday, 14 miles from Borrego Spring according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). And in the last 10 days there has been nine earthquakes of magnitude 3 or greater nearby according to the USGS, leading to fears of what may be to come. The quakes have taken place on the San Jacinto fault, the region's most active, Mr Hauksson said. Scientists say both the California fault lines and the Cascadia Subduction Zone are long overdue a major earthquake of magnitude eight or above. In a statement after the Cascadia Rising emergency tests a spokesman said: "Subduction zone earthquakes are said to be among the most powerful, and can exceed a 9 magnitude."

I agree, it’s about as worrisome as a meteor strike or global warming to me.

Can it at least hit when Obama is at another clooney fundraiser there?

“I agree, it’s about as worrisome as a meteor strike or global warming to me.”

Juan de Fuca quakes are much more frequent and another is statistically overdue. A large meteor strike is a global extinction level event. Nothing to be “prepared for” except may be develop space weapon systems. Also, global warming/cooling is natural and has been happening... or else the earth would still be a molten lava. It will happen gradually.

I thought the Cascadia Subduction Zone was a threat to Oregon, Washington State and British Columbia.

California? Maybe that portion of California just south of the Oregon border, but the rest of the state needs to be more concerned about their own localized faults.

The last time the Cascadia Subduction Zone popped was January 26, 1700. It is believed that quake was 9.0 or higher.

The “Big One” has been predicted with some certainty going back to early 1970s, as far as I can remember.

When it happens we will say it’s God’s punishment on America. The muslims will be saying the same thing. Maybe both are right but for the wrong reasons. One is right. One is wrong. I’ll stick with our side.

Good read. This is not the San Andreas fault which is only capable of an 8 or so. Rather it’s the Cascadia subduction zone with is capable of a 9+ and threatens the pacific northwest.

Hey, I have a great idea. Let’s drill a railroad tunnel right through the fault and see what happens when the Big One hits!

As much as I hate to see any Kalifornia people killed or injured, perhaps a good earthquake will jolt some sense into the liberal heads living there.

YEP I almost didn’t go to So. California in early June, as this hoax has been going around..for 50 years. In about 40 more years, they’ll probably have a 7.0 earthquake

Yep, one day in the future it will happen.

BTW, I just found out I’m having a latency problem on my email. Got your 11 AM at 4 PM today. I sent you a reply a few minutes ago, but you might not see it for an hour or two. Sheesh. Let me know when you get it?
