I’ve always been puzzled about the crisis caused by the potato famine in Ireland. They were surrounded by a sea full of fish and didn’t have potatoes until they were imported from the western hemisphere. What did they ear before they had taters? And, on another note, what did southern Italians eat before they got tomatoes from the new world and pasta from China?
