More than one-third of refugees in Vermont test positive for tuberculosis

Data from the Vermont Department of Health show that more than one-third of refugees resettled in Vermont test positive for tuberculosis.

Since 2013, about 900 refugees admitted to the Green Mountain State have been tested for tuberculosis, a potentially fatal infectious disease affecting the lungs. Of that number, 318 refugees, or 35.4 percent, tested positive.

Watchdog.org obtained the health data on Wednesday following reporting by Stateline that the disease may be making a comeback in the United States.

My time in VT was mostly on the east side. I went to Burlington often, but never lived there.

I imagine most Vermonters I know would not give a hoot what someone’s religion was, as long as they minded their own business.

In the rural areas, most everyone gets some sort of assistance, so the “not working” thing is not as big a deal. But, causing trouble or trying to change the system that has been in place for 200 years is not going to go over well.

Thinking that islam is just a religion is an example of the mental acuity that allowed VT to be over run by liberals in the first place.

It depends on what test is used and what positive means. Many third world countries use a vaccine for TB called BCG. This will give a positive skin test for TB despite no exposure or disease.

A positive skin test in the absence of BCG means the person has been exposed to TB but does not mean they have or will ever develop active TB

More information is needed about these positive tests before becoming alarmed. Presumably those with a positive skin test will be treated empirically for TB on entrance to the US, and should not represent a danger to the general population. There are far more scary diseases being brought in than TB. The ones that are not being screened are the ones that scare me.

The pill kills off virus one.

I thought that tuberculosis was caused by a bacterium, not a virus.
