The killing of a gorilla at the Cincinnati Zoo after a 4-year-old boy tumbled into the ape's enclosure triggered outrage and questions about safety, but zoo officials called the decision to use lethal force a tough but necessary choice.
More than 2,000 people signed a petition on Change.org that sharply criticized the Cincinnati Police Department and the zoo for putting down the animal and called for the child's parents to be "held accountable for their actions of not supervising their child."
Cincinnati police on Sunday said the parents had not been charged, but that charges could eventually be sought by the Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney. A spokeswoman for the prosecutor did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In the video, it looks like the gorilla is try ing to help or protect the boy.
The article says it dragged the boy around the enclosure for 10 minutes.
I can imagine the boy was terrified and screaming.
I wish there were more or better videos available of what really happened.

I think the gorilla WAS trying to protect him. But he was treating the boy like a young gorilla, and humans can’t take the same physical treatment that a gorilla can.

Leftist idiots. That kid could have been ripped apart in seconds. They made the RIGHT call. Setup procedures for faster tranquilizing if need be. But they did the only thing they could.

They use it on grizzlies in my community...Elephants, lions, tigers and giraffes in the African wild.
Actual tranquilizers often kill big mammals because they stop breathing. PCP ‘shuts them down’ by making them over-aware...

Don’t believe your lying eyes! Here’s one where the gorilla protected a kid from juvenile gorillas. Fortunately they didn’t shoot him or didn’t have enough time to shoot him.
It appears that the gorilla was not hurting the boy at all.
Chimps are very aggressive. Gorillas are not.
It occurred to me that if that gorilla intended to harm that boy, the kid wouldn’t have lasted more than 20 seconds.
I’m sure the animal rights activists were reserving judgment until they found out the minority, or registration status — R or D— of the kid’s parents.
